A diagnostic port connector for a vehicle that includes a locking mechanism is disclosed. The system can comprise a connector body, such as a male OBD-II connector. The connector can include a plurality of connector pins, with the pins capable of passing signals and messages from the vehicle's on board diagnostic system to a device in electrical communication with the connector. The connector can also include a connection retention component. The connection retention component can be configured to maintain a connection between male connectors and female connection ports by interfering with a protruding portion of the female connection port.

Electrical connector with positive locking position assurance

An electrical connector comprises a housing defining a receptacle opening for receiving a mating connector in a mating direction and a terminal positioning component slidably received within the receptacle opening and moveable in the mating direction. The terminal positioning component includes a pin protection plate defining at least one aperture sized to receive a conductive pin of at least one terminal arranged within the housing, and a terminal assurance element extending from the pin protection plate in the mating direction. The terminal assurance element is adapted to prevent the movement of the component in the mating direction when the at least one terminal is in a partially inserted state within the housing. The connector further comprises a first locking element arranged on a wall of the housing for selectively fixing the position of the terminal positioning component within the receptacle in the mating direction.

Reversible connector interface

A reversible plug connector includes a plug housing having a housing contact disposed on an inner surface of the plug housing, a moveable plug insulator disposed within the plug housing, the moveable plug insulator having an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface with a metallic conductor exposed on both the upper surface and the lower surface. The moveable plug insulator is configured to be vertically displaced in response to the reversible plug connector being inserted into a receptacle connector such that a portion of the metallic conductor is brought into contact with a receptacle contact on the receptacle connector and another portion of the metallic conductor is brought into contact with the housing contact, and thereby the housing contact is electrically connected to the receptacle contact. A corresponding system is also disclosed herein.
