Communication connectors having switchable electrical performance characteristics

A connector configured to operate in two different electrical performance modes. The connector may include a plurality of connector contacts, a plurality of contact pads, and an insulator having an insulating portion adjacent the plurality of contact pads. The insulator is movable between an insulating position and a non-insulating position. When the insulator is in the insulating position, the insulating portion insulates the plurality of contact pads from the plurality of connector contacts and the connector operates in a first one of the electrical performance modes. When the insulator is in the non-insulating position, the plurality of connector contacts contact the plurality of contact pads and the connector operates in a different second one of the electrical performance modes. The connector may be implemented as a plug or an outlet.

A receptacle includes a cooling channel that is positioned between a top port and a bottom port. A transfer member is positioned in the cooling channel and is configured to direct heat from an inserted plug module into the cooling channel. Air flowing through the cooling channel acts to remove thermal energy from the receptacle. A connector system may include a plug module that can be inserted into such a receptacle and the plug module can include grooves to help allow for direct cooling of the plug module, even when inserted into the receptacle.

High speed connector array

Combined connector receptacles, examples of which comprise tongues configured to be aligned to openings in a device enclosure; EMI shield contact rails, a central ground plane, a connector receptacle shield to provide isolation between the individual connector receptacles to reduce signal noise; and organizers and other structures arranged to reduce or eliminate damage to through-hole contact portions during their insertion into corresponding openings in a printed circuit board.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ASSEMBLY WITH IMPROVED SHIELDING EFFECT AND LOCKING STRUCTURE

An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector and a metal casing. The electrical connector includes an insulating body and a number of conductive terminals. The insulating body includes a slot. Each conductive terminal includes an abutting portion. The metal casing includes a receiving cavity. When a mating connector is inserted into the receiving cavity and has not yet made contact with the conductive terminals of the electrical connector, a better shielding effect can be achieved. Some of the abutting portions are adapted for electrically connecting with a circuit board, and some of the abutting portions of the conductive terminals are connected with a cable. The metal casing includes a hook portion locking with a lock surface of the circuit board. Therefore, the metal casing can be prevented from detaching from the circuit board in case an external force is applied to pull the cable.
