Generation of high-power spatially-restructurable spectrally-tunable beams in a multi-arm-cavity VECSEL-based laser system
A collinear T-cavity VECSEL system generating intracavity Hermite-Gaussian modes at multiple wavelengths, configured to vary each of these wavelengths individually and independently. A mode converter element and/or an astigmatic mode converter is/are aligned intracavity to reversibly convert the Gaussian modes to HG modes to Laguerre-Gaussian modes, the latter forming the system output having any of the wavelengths provided by the spectrum resulting from nonlinear frequency-mixing intracavity (including generation of UV, visible, mid-IR light). The laser system delivers Watt-level output power in tunable high-order transverse mode distribution.
Systems and methods for addressing pumping of thermal interface materials in high-power laser systems
In various embodiments, laser devices feature means, such as fasteners, for attaching a laser package to a cooling plate, which allow motion of the laser package in response to thermal cycles resulting from operation of a beam emitter therewithin. Embodiments of the invention additionally or instead include laser devices featuring segmented barrier layers for electrically isolating the laser package from the cooling plate.
SEMICONDUCTOR LASER ELEMENT
A reflectivity of an end surface protective film of a semiconductor laser element is made less than or equal to 1% in a wide wavelength range. Semiconductor laser element includes semiconductor stack body having front end surface and rear end surface, and end surface protective film disposed on front end surface of semiconductor stack body. End surface protective film includes first dielectric layer disposed on front end surface and second dielectric layer stacked outside first dielectric layer. Second dielectric layer includes first layer stacked on first dielectric layer, second layer stacked on first layer, and third layer stacked on second layer. For wavelength λ, of a laser beam, refractive index n2 of second layer is higher than refractive index n1 of first layer and refractive index n3 of third layer, and a film thickness of second layer ranges from λ(8n2) to 3λ(4n2) inclusive.
Optical cross-coupling mitigation systems for wavelength beam combining laser systems
In various embodiments, wavelength beam combining laser systems incorporate optical cross-coupling mitigation systems and/or engineered partially reflective output couplers in order to reduce or substantially eliminate unwanted back-reflection of stray light.
Beam combining device and beam combining method for Bragg grating external-cavity laser module
A beam combining device and method for a Bragg grating external-cavity laser module has a plurality of side by side light-emitting modules that use a Bragg grating to perform wavelength locking. Output light of the modules is incident to a beam combining element after passing through a focusing optical element for beam combining, and light subjected to beam combining is reflected partially and transmitted partially under the effect of a light splitting element. A part is incident into a dispersion element at a diffraction angle of the element. Parallel light is formed under the effect of a conversion optical element. Spots of the light beams of corresponding wavelengths of the light-emitting modules are formed on an image acquisition mechanism. Whether the wavelengths of the corresponding light-emitting modules are locked is determined by whether there is a deviation between preset spots and spots formed by the module on the acquisition mechanism.
FIBER-COUPLED LASER LIGHT SOURCE
Described herein are photonic sources and related system architectures that can satisfy the optical power requirements of large photonic accelerators. Some embodiments relate to a computer comprising a photonic accelerator configured to perform matrix multiplication; a fiber array optically coupled to the photonic accelerator; and a photonic source optically coupled to the fiber array. The photonic source comprising a laser array comprising a plurality of monolithically co-integrated lasers, and a coupling lens array comprising a plurality of monolithically co-integrated lenses, the coupling lens array optically coupling the laser array to the fiber array. The laser array is configured to output between 0.1 W and 10 W of optical power.
External laser enabled co-packaged optics architectures
A sourceless co-packaged optical-electrical chip can include a plurality of different optical transceivers, each of which can transmit to an external destination or internal components. Each of the transceivers can be configured for a different modulation format, such as different pulse amplitude, phase shift key, and quadrature amplitude modulation formats. Different light sources provide light for processing by the transceivers, where the light source and transceivers can be configured for different applications (e.g., different distances) and data rates. An optical coupler can combine the light for the different transceivers for input into the sourceless co-packaged optical-electrical chip via a polarization maintaining media (e.g., polarization maintaining few mode fiber and polarization maintaining single mode fiber), where another coupler operates in splitting mode to separate the different channels of light for the different transceivers according to different co-packaged configurations.
Wavelength tunable light source, optical transmission apparatus using the same, and method of controlling wavelength tunable light source
A wavelength tunable light source includes: a common wavelength filter that has periodic transmission peak wavelengths or reflection peak wavelengths and is commonly used for a plurality of channels; a wavelength tunable filter that is coupled to the common wavelength filter and has a one-input and multiple-output configuration which has a plurality of output ports, and that has a plurality of transmission peak wavelengths corresponding to the plurality of channels at the plurality of output ports; and a plurality of gain media optically coupled to the plurality of output ports of the wavelength tunable filter, wherein a plurality of laser cavities that perform laser oscillation at a plurality of different wavelengths are formed between the common wavelength filter and the plurality of gain media.
