A machine that forms the heads of coils made of rectangular wire so that it fits within the slots of the stator of an electric machine is described herein. The machine receives a coil having unformed first and second heads separated by first and second legs and apply controlled deformation thereto to yield properly shaped heads. The machine comprises first and second leg support mechanisms for gripping the first and second legs and head-forming elements for contacting portions of the heads of the wire coil while the first and second legs are gripped by the leg support. The head-forming elements are mounted to the first and second leg support mechanisms. Actuators are provided for causing sequential actuated movements of one of the first and second legs to force the head-forming elements into contact with different portions of the first and second heads while allowing selective free movements of the other leg in response to the actuated movements so as to prevent uncontrolled deformations of the wire coil during the actuated movements.

A method for producing a stator having a form-wound coil for use in a generator of a gearless wind power installation is provided. Circumferentially adjacent form-wound coils are inserted into slots of a stator in succession, where a predetermined number of the first form-wound coils to be inserted are being-inserted only partially into the slots or are positioned in front of the slots and are only fully inserted into the corresponding slots together with a predetermined number of the form-wound coils to be inserted last. A winding structure and a stator having the form-wound coil are provided.

A method for manufacturing a coil module for a stator for a tubular linear motor includes placing a plurality of bobbins and spacers on a winding mandrel and winding the plurality of bobbins with a single length of wire to form a set of coils. Three sets of such coils are interleaved on an encapsulation mandrel. A plurality of metal comb shaped elements, each including a longitudinal spine and a plurality of teeth are distributed about the circumference of the three interleaved sets of coils to form a coil module. The coil module and the mandrel are surrounded with an encapsulation mold. An encapsulating material is introduced into the encapsulation mold. The encapsulated coil module is removed from the encapsulating mold and the encapsulation mandrel after setting of the encapsulating material.
