Quadrature combined doherty amplifiers
Apparatus and methods for quadrature combined Doherty amplifiers are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a separator is used to separate a radio frequency (RF) input signal into a plurality of input signal components that are amplified by a pair of Doherty amplifiers operating in quadrature. Additionally, a combiner is used to combine a plurality of output signal components generated by the pair of Doherty amplifiers, thereby generating an RF output signal exhibiting quadrature balancing.
Method for high-power combining
An apparatus for high-power combining includes multiple power-combining building blocks, a passive input network to couple one or more input signals to one or more input ports of the multiple power-combining building blocks, and a passive output network to couple to output ports of the multiple power-combining building blocks and to generate one or more amplified output signals. Each power-combining building block includes M high-power amplifiers (HPAs) coupled in parallel to a respective passive input network and a respective passive output network. A count of the multiple power-combining building blocks is determined based on a desired total number N of the HPAs and a number M of the HPAs in each power-combining building block.

ULTRA COMPACT MULTI-BAND TRANSMITTER WITH ROBUST AM-PM DISTORTION SELF-SUPPRESSION TECHNIQUES
A communication device includes a power amplifier that generates power signals according to one or more operating bands of communication data, with the amplitude being driven and generated in output stages of the power amplifier. The final stage can include an output passive network that suppresses suppress an amplitude modulation-to-phase modulation (AM-PM) distortion. During a back-off power mode a bias of a capacitive unit of the output power network component can be adjusted to minimize an overall capacitance variation. A output passive network can further generate a flat-phase response between dual resonances of operation.
Systems and methods related to power amplification and power supply control
Systems and methods related to power amplification and power supply control. A method of operating a power amplification control system can include receiving, by an interface, a transceiver control signal from a transceiver. The method can further include generating, by a power amplifier control component, a power amplifier control signal based on the transceiver control signal from the transceiver. The method can also include generating, by a power supply control component, a power supply control signal based on one or more of the transceiver control signal from the transceiver or a local control signal from the power amplifier control component.
Sequenced transmit muting for wideband power amplifiers
A sequenced transmit muting wideband power amplifier is provided that includes at least one pre-driver stage having at least a first pre-driver and a second pre-driver. A mute switch selectively establishes a communication path between the first and second pre-drivers or couples the second pre-driver to a termination resistor. A pre-driver switch selectively activates/deactivates the first and second pre-drivers. A driver stage is in communication with the pre-driver stage and includes a first driver. A final amplifier stage is in communication with the driver stage and includes at least one second driver. At least one S-NBS switch is configured to selectively activate/deactivate the first driver and second driver. A controller is configured to activate the at least one pre-driver switch, the mute switch, the at least one S-NBS switch to selectively place the amplifier in one of a transmit mode and a mute mode.
Amplification apparatus and transmission apparatus
An amplification apparatus as the embodiment of the present invention includes a switching amplifier and an adjuster. The switching amplifier is driven on the basis of a control signal and amplifies an input signal to be amplified to generate an amplified signal. The adjuster adjusts the control signal before it is inputted into the switching amplifier. Specifically, the adjuster adjusts at least one of a pulse width of the control signal and a delay time of the control signal with respect to the signal to be amplified.
WIDEBAND POWER COMBINER AND SPLITTER
Wideband power combiners and splitters are provided herein. In certain embodiments, a power combiner/splitter is implemented with a first coil connecting a first port and a second port, and a second coil connecting a third port and a fourth port. The first coil and the second coil are inductively coupled to one another. For example, the first coil and the second coil can be formed using adjacent conductive layers of a semiconductor chip, an integrated passive device, or a laminate. The power combiner/splitter further includes a fifth port tapping a center of the first coil and a sixth port tapping a center of the second coil. The fifth port and the sixth port serve to connect capacitors and/or other impedance to the center of the coils to thereby provide wideband operation.
