An interdigital transducer increased propagation frequency and a method for making the same is described. The transducer comprises a substrate for propagation of acoustic waves comprising a first surface having alternating high and low surface portions extending laterally across the substrate, a set of elongate first electrodes, each first electrode disposed on a respective high surface portion and a set of elongate second electrodes, each second electrode disposed on a respective low surface portion such that the first and second electrodes are alternately adjacent to one another, the high and low surface portions being substantially equal in width to each electrode of the first and second sets of electrodes.

Method of fabricating a SiC resonator

A method of making a SiC resonator includes forming a layer of an oxide material on a relatively thick wafer of SiC; bonding the layer of oxide material on the relatively thick wafer of SiC to a handle wafer having at least an oxide exterior surface, the resulting bond being substantially free of voids; planarizing the relatively thick wafer of SiC to a desired thickness; forming top and bottom electrodes on the wafer of SiC wafer to define a SiC wafer resonator portion; and forming a trench around the top and bottom electrodes, the tench completely penetrating the planarized wafer of SiC around a majority of a distance surrounding said top and bottom electrodes, except for one or more tether regions of the planarized wafer of SiC which remain physically coupled a remaining portion the SiC wafer resonator portion which defines a frame formed of the planarized wafer of SiC surrounding the SiC wafer resonator portion.

An acoustic wave device includes: a piezoelectric substrate; electrodes sandwiching the piezoelectric substrate and exciting a thickness shear vibration in the piezoelectric substrate; and an edge region that is a region surrounding a center region of a resonance region, wherein a first region of the edge region is located on both sides of the center region in a first direction substantially parallel to a displacement direction of a thickness shear vibration, a second region of the edge region is located on both sides of the center region in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction, a width of the second region is different from a width of the first region, and acoustic velocities of acoustic waves in the piezoelectric substrate in the first and second regions are less than that in the piezoelectric substrate in the center region.

Filter device, RF front-end device and wireless communication device

A filter device, an RF front-end device and a wireless communication device are provided. The filter device includes a substrate, a passive device and at least one resonance device, wherein the passive device has a first side and a second side opposite to the first side, the substrate is located on the first side, and the at least one resonance device is located on the second side. The RF filter device formed by integrating the resonance device (such as an SAW or BAW resonance device) and the passive device (such as an IPD) can broaden the pass-band width, has a high out-of-band rejection, and occupies less space in an RF front-end chip.

A film bulk acoustic wave resonator comprising a piezoelectric film having a central region defining a main active domain in which a main acoustic wave is generated during operation, an upper electrode disposed on a top surface of the piezoelectric film, a lower electrode disposed on a lower surface of the piezoelectric film, a dielectric material layer disposed on a lower surface of the lower electrode, and lower recessed frame regions disposed laterally on opposite sides of the central region, the lower recessed frame regions defined by regions of one of the dielectric material or of the lower electrode having a lesser thickness than the thickness of the one of the dielectric material layer or of the lower electrode in the central region.

Non-linear tethers for suspended devices

A suspended device structure comprises a substrate, a cavity disposed in a surface of the substrate, and a device suspended entirely over a bottom of the cavity. The device is a piezoelectric device and is suspended at least by a tether that physically connects the device to the substrate. The tether has a non-linear centerline. A wafer can comprise a plurality of suspended device structures. A device structure can comprise a device over a sacrificial portion or cavity and a tether with a tether opening extending to the sacrificial portion or cavity. The tether or tether opening can have a T shape. The tether can have a tether length at least one third as large as a device length and the device can have a device length at least twice as large as a device width.

ACOUSTIC WAVE DEVICE

An acoustic wave device includes a piezoelectric film and an IDT electrode on the piezoelectric film. The IDT electrode includes first and second busbars, at least one first electrode finger, and at least one second electrode finger. When an overlap region is defined as a region in which the first and second electrode fingers overlap each other in an acoustic wave propagation direction, points A2, B2, C2, and D2, defined as follows, are all outside the cavity when, at the points A2, B2, C2, and D2, xa>about 25 μm, ya>about 25 μm, xb>about 25 μm, yb>about 25 μm, xc>about 25 μm, yc>about 25 μm, xd>about 25 μm, and yd>about 25 μm.

BULK ACOUSTIC WAVE DEVICES WITH GAP FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

Aspects of this disclosure relate to bulk acoustic wave devices that have a piezoelectric layer between a first electrode and a second electrode and a suspended frame structure that is suspended over a gap. The gap can be between the first electrode and the piezoelectric layer or between the second electrode and the piezoelectric layer. The bulk acoustic wave devices can have an inner raised frame portion inside of the suspended frame. The gap can be disposed between portions of the first and second electrodes that extend past an end of the piezoelectric layer. A conductive material can extend through an opening in a passivation layer at a location directly above the gap.

RAISED FRAME LAYER IN BULK ACOUSTIC WAVE DEVICE

A bulk acoustic wave (BAW) device is provided comprising a first electrode, a second electrode, a piezoelectric layer positioned between the first electrode and the second electrode, and a raised frame structure outside of a middle area of an active domain of the BAW device, the raised frame structure comprising one or more raised frame layer(s). At least one of the raised frame layer(s) comprises a tapered portion tapering in a direction towards the middle area of the active domain. A packaged module comprising such a BAW device is also provided. A wireless mobile device comprising such a packaged module is also provided.

An acoustic wave device includes a support, a piezoelectric layer on the support, a functional electrode at the piezoelectric layer, a frame-shaped support frame on the piezoelectric layer and surrounding the functional electrode in plan view in a stacking direction of the support and the piezoelectric layer, and a lid covering an opening of the support frame, wherein the support includes a first cavity overlapping at least a portion of the functional electrode in the plan view, a second cavity defined by the piezoelectric layer, the support frame, and the lid between the piezoelectric layer and the lid, the piezoelectric layer includes a through hole communicating with the first and second cavities, and a gas is provided in the first and second cavities.
