The device also includes a base portion flexibly coupled to the display portion and comprising a glass member defining a keyboard region configured to receive user input, a first haptic actuator configured to produce a first haptic output at a first area of the keyboard region, and a second haptic actuator configured to produce a second haptic output at a second area of the keyboard region that is different from the first area.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AUTOMOTIVE VARIABLE IMPEDANCE TOUCH SENSOR ARRAY
The present invention relates to automotive interface systems and methods. In one embodiment, an automotive interface system includes a steering wheel and an integrated interpolated variable impedance array that comprises a grid of sensing elements. The sensing elements are configured to power on simultaneously and to simultaneously generate multiple currents along multiple current paths in response to sensing a touch wherein the amount of current generated by a sensing element of the grid is directly proportional to the force applied by the touch. The automotive interface system also includes an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a processor communicatively coupled to the interpolated variable impedance array that are configured to receive the multiple currents along multiple current paths and determine a location, a duration, an area, and a force of the touch from the multiple currents along multiple current paths.
SWITCH DEVICE WITH INTEGRATED TOUCH SENSOR
This disclosure is generally directed to a multi-value selection switch that includes an engagement surface with an integrated touch sensor. The integrated touch sensor includes a plurality of detectable positions that correspond to, for instance, a range of absolute or relative target input values between a predefined minimum and maximum. The engagement surface further defines a switch that actuates/activates based on detecting a user-supplied force and/or based on a user momentarily holding a finger/pointer position. A user can select a target input value by bringing a finger or other pointer within operable proximity of an associated detectable position and actuating the switch and/or momentarily pausing. In response, the selection switch outputs a control signal to an associated device to cause the same to adjust operation.
Method and apparatus for automotive variable impedance touch sensor array
The present invention relates to automotive interface systems and methods. In one embodiment, an automotive interface system includes a steering wheel and an integrated interpolated variable impedance array that comprises a grid of sensing elements. Aperature filtering for resistive multi-touch distortions
An apparatus comprises touch screen interface and signal processing circuit. Within touch screen interface, there are switching circuits configured to be coupled to at least one of a plurality of column electrodes, and there are touch detection circuits configured to be coupled to at least one of a plurality of row electrodes. The signal processing circuit is coupled to each switching circuit and each touch detection circuit so as to be able to selectively activate the plurality of switching circuits and touch detection circuits to identify a zone for a touch event. The signal processing circuit determines first, second, third, and fourth resistances for the zone for the touch event and determines a set of coordinates and pressure for the touch event from its first, second, third, and fourth resistances wherein an aperture filter register is in a host interface that also stores the first digital representation.
SELF-TEST METHOD, CORRESPONDING CIRCUIT AND DEVICE
A touchscreen resistive sensor includes a network of resistive sensor branches coupled to a number of sensor nodes arranged at touch locations of the touchscreen. A test sequence is performed by sequentially applying to each sensor node a reference voltage level, jointly coupling to a common line the other nodes, sensing a voltage value at the common line, and declaring a short circuit condition as a result of the voltage value sensed at the common line reaching a short circuit threshold. A current value level flowing at the sensor node to which the reference voltage level is applied is sensed and a malfunction of the resistive sensor branch coupled with the sensor node to which a reference voltage level is applied is generated as a result of the current value sensed at the sensor node reaching an upper threshold or lower threshold.
Device having integrated interface system
A portable computer includes a display portion comprising a display, a base portion pivotally coupled to the display portion and including a glass top case. The glass top case defines an exterior surface and a keyboard opening through the glass top case from the exterior surface to an interior surface. The portable computer further includes a keyboard positioned at least partially within the keyboard opening and comprising a substrate, a key configured to move relative to the substrate, and a fabric cover disposed over the key and defining a user interface surface of the key.
DETECTION APPARATUS
An apparatus for detecting a mechanical interaction has a plurality of scan lines and a plurality of output lines. An intersection between each scan line and output line provides a connection to a plurality of sensing elements. Each of the sensing elements comprises a variable resistance element and a voltage amplifier. The apparatus includes an output processor which determines a voltage output in parallel at each output line from the plurality of sensing elements on activation of one of the scan lines from a driving processor.
Self-test method, corresponding circuit and device
A touchscreen resistive sensor includes a network of resistive sensor branches coupled to a number of sensor nodes arranged at touch locations of the touchscreen. A portable computer includes a display portion comprising a display and a base portion pivotally coupled to the display portion. The base portion may include a bottom case and a top case, formed from a dielectric material, coupled to the bottom case. The top case may include a top member defining a top surface of the base portion and a sidewall integrally formed with the top member and defining a side surface of the base portion. The portable computer may also include a sensing system including a first sensing system configured to determine a location of a touch input applied to the top surface of the base portion and a second sensing system configured to determine a force of the touch input.
