Rate-adaptive multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) systems
A rate-adaptive method of communicating over a multipath wireless communication system uses multiple links such that each end of a link uses multiple transmit and receive antennas. A number of independent streams that are to be transmitted for each link is determined based on an overall system performance measure. In addition, the system may also jointly determine the best modulation, coding, power control, and frequency assignment for each link, based on an overall system performance measure. In OFDM systems, the number of independent streams, as well as the modulation, coding, and power control, may be determined on a tone-by-tone basis based on an overall system performance measure.

The present invention relates to a method and a device for adjusting a signal of a receiving device in a mobile communication system and, more specifically, to a method for adjusting a signal of a receiving device in a mobile communication system, the method comprising the steps of: receiving signals from at least two antennas; calculating at least one correlation value by using the received signals; obtaining a delay difference value between the signals based on the at least one calculated correlation value; and outputting adjusted signals generated by adjusting the received signals based on the obtained delay difference value.
SPACE-TIME CODING WITH SIGNAL SEPARATION
A method for transmitting a message, including an array of signal radiating elements for broadcasting signals that are unique one from another. One each of the unique signals is associated with one each of the radiating elements. One each of a set of transmitters is in electronic communication with one each of the radiating elements, and provides the associated unique signal to each of the radiating elements. A signal generating device receives the message from a message source and transforms the message into the unique signals. The unique signals, when broadcast, spatially interfere one with another such that the message is intelligibly receivable at only one location that is predetermined by the signal generating device, and is garbled at all other locations.
DETERMINING ERROR VECTOR MAGNITUDE FOR A SINGLE LAYER TRANSMISSION USING A MULTIPLE-INPUT MULTIPLE-OUTPUT RECEIVER
Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for calculating an error vector magnitude (EVM) of a transmitter. An apparatus includes a transceiver that receives, using an unbiased linear multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) receiver, a single layer transmission signal transmitted via a propagation channel, the signal generated and transmitted using an antenna port at a transmitter, the antenna port comprising a plurality of antennas and an antenna connector for each of the plurality of antennas and a processor that determines an EVM for the single layer transmission from the transmitter based on an output of the unbiased linear MIMO receiver, the EVM defined as 100 times a square root of a mean-square error at the output of the unbiased linear MIMO receiver.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPLEMENTING SPACE TIME PROCESSING WITH UNEQUAL MODULATION AND CODING SCHEMES
A method and apparatus for implementing spatial processing with unequal modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) or stream-dependent MCSs are disclosed. Input data may be parsed into a plurality of data streams, and spatial processing is performed on the data streams to generate a plurality of spatial streams. An MCS for each data stream is selected independently. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. At least one of the techniques of space time block coding (STBC), space frequency block coding (SFBC), quasi-orthogonal Alamouti coding, time reversed space time block coding, linear spatial processing and cyclic delay diversity (CDD) may be performed on the data/spatial streams. An antennal mapping matrix may then be applied to the spatial streams. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. The MCS for each data stream may be determined based on a signal-to-noise ratio of each spatial stream associated with the data stream.

When transmitting signals from a plurality of base stations (broadcasting stations), the base stations include at least a first base station having a first antenna with a first polarization and a second base station having a second antenna with a second polarization that is different from the first polarization. Then, when the first base station transmits a signal from the first antenna having the first polarization, the second base station transmits the same signal as the first antenna of the first base station from a second antenna having the second polarization, at the same time.
