Half-duplex communications for a very small aperture terminal (VSAT) operating on a continuous stream
A method and apparatus for providing half-duplex communications for a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) operating on a continuous received stream is disclosed. The method includes: decoding the continuous received stream to establish synchronization with the continuous received stream; locating, in the continuous received stream, a time plan including a receiving timeslot and a transmitting timeslot; demodulating the continuous received stream by adapting to a timing and frequency variation of the continuous received stream in the receiving timeslot, freewheeling the adapting of the continuous received stream during the transmitting timeslot, and resuming the adapting of the continuous received stream when the transmitting timeslot ends; stopping a receiving of the continuous received stream during the transmitting timeslot; and transmitting from the VSAT during the transmitting timeslot. The freewheeling includes saving a signal acquisition parameter at the start of the transmitting timeslot and restoring the saved signal acquisition parameter at the end of the transmitting timeslot.
Cellular enabled IP radio satellite terminal
Some implementations of the disclosure are directed to a satellite and cellular terminal, comprising: an indoor unit; and an outdoor unit comprising a satellite antenna and an outdoor Radio configured to communicatively couple to the indoor unit, the outdoor Radio comprising: an outdoor cellular antenna configured to communicate over a cellular communications network by transmitting signals generated using at least a cellular modem; and a feed horn configured to communicatively couple to the satellite antenna, wherein the satellite antenna is configured to communicate over a satellite communications network by transmitting signals over an inroute and receiving signals over an outroute.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATICALLY CALCULATING CABLE ATTENUATION BETWEEN A SATELLITE TERMINAL AND A RADIO ACROSS A FREQUENCY SPECTRUM
A very small aperture terminal (VSAT) installation tool is provided having the ability to measure cable loss along an interfacility link (IFL) between an outdoor unit and an indoor unit of the VSAT. Radio frequency (RF) signals can be transmitted from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit, where the RF signals are intercepted along the IFL prior to reaching the outdoor unit, and the output power is determined. The determined output power is compared to an expected output power at the indoor unit. The delta between the determined output power and the expected output power can be used to adjust the power of the indoor unit such that the outdoor unit can operate without reaching its compression point. The determined output power can be extrapolated based upon measured of the output power performed over a range of frequencies at which the indoor unit operates.
COMMUNICATION DEVICE, NON-GEOSTATIONARY SATELLITE, GROUND STATION, AND COMMUNICATION METHOD
A communication device is a communication device that communicates with at least one of a plurality of ground stations via a non-geostationary satellite, and includes: an acquisition unit that acquires predetermined information necessary for switching a connection destination ground station in advance before switching processing; and a communication control unit that switches the connection destination ground station based on the predetermined information.
Mobile medicine communication platform and methods and uses thereof
Telemedicine systems and methods are described. In a telemedicine system operable to communicate with a remote operations center, communications can be transmitted/received using a transceiver having an antenna. The antenna can include first and second di-pole antenna elements, the first di-pole antenna element being vertically polarized and the second di-pole antenna element being horizontally polarized. A controller of the system can establish, using the transceiver, a telemedicine session with the operations center using a Transport Morphing Protocol (TMP), the TMP being an acknowledgement-based user datagram protocol. The controller can also mask one or more transient network degradations to increase resiliency of the telemedicine session. The telemedicine system can include a 2D and 3D carotid Doppler and transcranial Doppler and/or other diagnostic devices, and provides for real-time connectivity and communication between medical personnel in an emergency vehicle and a receiving hospital for immediate diagnosis and treatment to a patient in need.
Beam super surge methods and apparatus for small geostationary (GEO) communication satellites
Disclosed embodiments relate satellites using a Software-Defined Radio (“SDR”) system. In one example, a geostationary (GEO) satellite includes an antenna system including multiple antennas, each configured to provide a spot beam having an adjustable throughput for a terrestrial coverage area while the antenna is in an active state and the satellite is in orbit above the Earth, a front-end subsystem communicatively coupled to the antenna system having an input side including an input filter and an analog-to-digital converter, and an output side including an output filter and a digital-to-analog converter, and a software defined radio (“SDR”) communicatively coupled to the antenna system via the front-end subsystem. The SDR, in response to a surge modification request, modifies a throughput of each active antenna by increasing or decreasing a share of a satellite power budget allotted to the antenna by deactivating or activating a previously active or previously inactive antenna, respectively.
GATEWAY DIVERSITY OPERATION IN A SATELLITE NETWORK
A method and system for selectively using different gateways with a diverse terminal includes assigning a diverse channel set to each of a plurality of diverse terminals, and designating a primary gateway and a secondary gateway as either a home gateway or a foreign gateway for the each diverse terminal. During normal operations, link conditions for the channel between each diverse terminal and its home gateway are monitored. Diverse terminals can be reconfigured to communicate with a different their link conditions fall below a predetermined threshold.
Resource allocation for application deployment to satellite-linked communication nodes
Systems, apparatuses, methods, and software are described herein that provide enhanced satellite link-coupled communication nodes. In one example, a parent communication node includes a communication interface configured to communicate with a plurality of child communication nodes over corresponding satellite communication links. The parent communication node includes a resource manager configured to determine physical resources local to each of the plurality of child communication nodes, establish a pool of resources from among the physical resources, and responsive to a request for execution of an application, allocate resources from the pool of resources for execution of the application at one or more selected child communication nodes. EMP-resistant satellite communications with signal regenerating system and method
An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) resistant telecommunications (telecom) system includes core components mounted within and shielded by a Faraday cage. The components include a data source or storage device. An ethernet switch selectively connects the data source or storage device to a primary satellite router and a post-EMP satellite router. Telecom signals are output from and input to the core components via low noise blocks (LNBs) and block upconverters (BUCs).
