A chair includes a base and a back coupled to the base. The back includes a pair of back supports extending from the base and a back panel coupled to the pair of back supports. Each back support is configured to exhibit a first bending stiffness when bent to a first stop point, and exhibit a second bending stiffness when bent beyond the first stop point, the second bending stiffness being greater than the first bending stiffness.

The invention relates to a seat (1), in particular an office chair, comprising a seat support (3) for a seating surface (6) and comprising a backrest support (4) of a backrest (5), which is held on the seat support (3) so as to be able to move in a tiltable manner to the side, wherein the backrest support (4) comprises two support arms (4a, 4b) which are configured to be flexible and/or articulated laterally and spaced apart from one another. Preferably, the seating surface (6) and/or the backrest (5) comprises a curved seat shell and/or backrest shell (6a, 5a) provided with a cover (6b, 5b) with a number of flexible curved ribs (15, 16) on the edge of the shell, wherein the cover is stretched by the seat shell and/or backrest shell (6a, 5a) such that when the cover (6b, 5b) is loaded, the bending of the curved ribs (15, 16) is altered.
Ergonomically designed seating apparatus
An ergonomically designed seating apparatus having a seat and a backrest. The seat having a seat frame securable to a chassis, a seat support pivotally connected to the seat frame, and at least one first resilient member positioned between the seat frame and the seat support permitting resilient relative pivotal tilting between them. The backrest having a back frame securable to the chassis, a lumbar support connected to the back frame, a back support pivotally connected to the lumbar support, at least one second resilient member positioned along surfaces of the lumbar support and the back support permitting resilient relative pivotal tilting between them, at least one pivot arm connected to the back support configured to limit the pivotal range of motion of the back support, and at least one pivot block connected to the lumbar support configured to interact with the at least one pivot arm.
Chair
A chair including a subframe, a seat element, a back element, a spring mechanism and an adjustment device. The spring mechanism includes a leaf spring, which is clamped on one side in the subframe, and a support, which is movable on a track between the leaf spring and the subframe. The adjustment device includes an adjustment member and a transmission mechanism. A movement of the adjustment member is translated into a movement of the support at a transmission ratio of between 1:0.5 and 1:4.

Seating arrangement
A seating arrangement includes a base, a lower shell having a portion fixedly coupled to the base, and an upper shell supported entirely by the lower shell, the upper shell comprising a seating portion, a backrest portion moveable between an upright position and a reclined position, and a curved transition portion extending between the seating portion and the backrest portion, wherein a pair of laterally spaced longitudinal slots are located in portions of the seating portion and the transition portion thereby defining a central region and laterally spaced side regions, wherein the central region moves up relative to the side regions during recline.

Furniture member having flexible seatback
A furniture member may include a stationary seatback frame, a seat bottom assembly, a legrest mechanism, and a backrest support spring. The seat bottom assembly is movable relative to the seatback frame between a nominal position and a tilt position. The legrest mechanism is movable among a retracted position, a first extended position and a second extended position. A portion of the legrest mechanism contacts the seat bottom assembly when the legrest mechanism is in the first extended position and pushes the seat bottom assembly from the nominal position to the tilt position as the legrest mechanism moves from the first extended position to the second extended position. The backrest support spring includes a first end attached to the seatback frame and a second end attached to the seat bottom assembly and movable with the seat bottom assembly relative to the seatback frame.
