Power management for remote antenna units in distributed antenna systems
Power management for remote units in a wireless distribution system. Power can be managed for a remote unit configured to power modules and devices that may require more power to operate than power available to the remote unit. For example, the remote unit may be configured to include power-consuming remote unit modules to provide communication services. As another example, the remote unit may be configured to provide power through powered ports in the remote unit to power-consuming devices. Depending on the configuration of the remote unit, the power-consuming remote unit modules and/or power-consuming devices may demand more power than is available at the remote unit. In this instance, the power available at the remote unit can be distributed to the power-consuming modules and devices based on the priority of services desired to be provided by the remote unit.
Systems and methods for building wireless mesh networks
Disclosed herein is a system comprising a set of wireless communication nodes that are configured to operate as part of a wireless mesh network. Each respective wireless communication node may be directly coupled to at least one other wireless communication node via a respective short-hop wireless link, and at least a first pair of wireless nodes may be both (a) indirectly coupled to one another via a first communication path that comprises one or more intermediary wireless communication nodes and two or more short-hop wireless links and (b) directly coupled to one another via a first long-hop wireless link that provides a second communication path between the first pair of wireless communication nodes having a lesser number of hops than the first communication path. A fiber access point may be directly coupled to a first wireless communication node of the set of wireless communication nodes.

System-wide uplink band gain control in a distributed antenna system (DAS) based on per-band gain control of remote uplink paths in remote units is disclosed. In one embodiment, for each uplink band in the DAS, a gain control system receives remote uplink band power measurements for each remote uplink path for the uplink band. Based on these power measurements, the gain control system determines if the uplink gain of all of the remote uplink paths of the plurality of uplink paths of the uplink band should be adjusted. If the uplink gain of the remote uplink paths of the uplink band should be adjusted, the gain control system directs a remote uplink gain control circuit for each remote uplink path of the uplink band to adjust the uplink gain by a defined remote uplink band gain level.
A PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORKS STRUCTURE AND A REMOTE NODE IN A BACKHAUL COMMUNICATION NETWORK
A Passive Optical Networks (PONs) structure and a remote node in such a structure constituting at least a part of a backhaul network for supporting a Radio Access Network, in which a number of radio base stations are connected to optical networks units (ONUs) of said PONs structure. The ONUs of said PONs structure are grouped between separate PONs of said PONs structure. The ONUs of a separate PON are interconnected passively through a remote node of the PON in order to separate inter base station traffic of X2 interfaces from uplink and downlink data traffic of S1 interface heading from/to a core network via an optical line terminal (OLT). The remote node comprises of power splitter for enabling interconnection between ONUs of different PONs of said PONs structure.
Distributed antenna systems (DAS) supporting expanded, programmable communications services distribution to programmable remote communications service sector areas
Embodiments disclosed herein include distributed antenna systems (DASs) supporting expanded, programmable communications services distribution to remote communications service sector areas. In one embodiment, the DAS includes a first programmable switch for distributing downlink communications signals into one or more communications service sector sets. The DAS further includes a second programmable switch configured to distribute the one or more communications service sector sets to one or more remote communications service sector areas. A configurable extender module is also included to provide expanded routing of communications service sector sets in the DAS. In this manner, the DAS is programmable to allow any combination of communications service sector sets and expanded communications service sector sets from any number of different base stations to be routed to any combination of remote communications service sector areas and expanded remote communications service sector areas, based on capacity needs and capability of the DAS.
Digital representations of analog signals and control words using different multi-level modulation formats
A method implemented by a transmitter, comprising encoding digital in-phase and quadrature-phase (IQ) data associated with a plurality of analog signals according to a first multi-level modulation format to produce a modulated IQ signal, encoding control information associated with the plurality of analog signals according to a second multi-level modulation format that is different from the first multi-level modulation format to produce a modulated control signal, aggregating the modulated IQ signal and the modulated control signal via time-division multiplexing (TDM) to produce an aggregated TDM signal, and transmitting the aggregated TDM signal over a communication channel.

A system for routing signals in a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) includes one or more Base Band Units (BBUs). Each of the one or more BBUs has one or more digital outputs. The system also includes a plurality of Digital Multiplexer Units (DMUs) coupled to each other and operable to route signals between the plurality of DMUs. Each of the plurality of DMUs is operable to receive one or more digital inputs from the one or more BBUs. The system further includes a plurality of Digital Remote Units (DRUs) coupled to the plurality of DMUs and operable to transport signals between the plurality of DRUs and one or more of the plurality of DMUs.
ANALOG OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM USING DISPERSION MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE

The analog optical transmission system may include a digital unit (DU) pool including a plurality of DUs to transmit an optical signal; a plurality of radio units (RUs) to receive the optical signal; and one or more dispersion management apparatus to remove a signal distortion component caused by an interaction between a chirp and chromatic dispersion by compensating for the chromatic dispersion before the plurality of RUs receives the optical signal that is transmitted from the DU pool.
