PERFORMING RECEIVE BEAMFORMING IN A FIFTH GENERATION MILLIMETER WAVE SYSTEM
At an antenna array of a user device, a plurality of transmit beams having first widths are received from an access point. The array, using a receive beam having a second width, wider than the first width, measures a quality metric of each of the plurality of transmit beams, and determines angle of arrival for at least a given one of the plurality of transmit beams having a highest quality metric. The user device advises the access point of results of the quality metric measurement. The antenna array receives, from the access point, a selection, based on the advising, of a best one of the plurality of transmit beams for transmission from the access point to the user device. The antenna array forms a receive beam, having a third width, along the angle of arrival, and the third width is narrower than the second width.
SYNCHRONIZATION SIGNAL MEASUREMENT FOR BEAM DETECTION
Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may use a measurement procedure for beam detection within an existing cell. The UE perform a search procedure for a first synchronization signal block (SSB) to detect a first beam of a base station. The UE may determine a first timing offset for the first SSB based on the search procedure. The UE may estimate a second timing offset for a second SSB from the base station based on the first timing offset. The UE may perform a measurement procedure for the second SSB to detect a second beam of the base station based on the second timing offset. The UE may prune fake beams based on synchronization signals used for the measurement procedure.

Measurement-based wireless communications network design
According to an aspect, there is provided a network deployment analysis apparatus. It is assumed that information on a wireless communications network of first and second types are maintained in a database. The network deployment analysis apparatus causes performing downlink measurements on reference signals transmitted by one or more access nodes in the wireless communications network of the first type using a plurality of terminal devices in said network. In response to receiving information on results of the downlink measurements, the network deployment analysis apparatus calculates one or more values of traffic absorption capability associated with one or more potential cell deployments in a wireless communications network of the second type based on the received information and the information maintained in the database. The results of the calculating are outputted to a user device for facilitating network planning of the wireless communications network of the second type.

TECHNIQUES FOR ASSISTED BEAM REFINEMENT
Techniques are described herein for a beam refinement procedure between a first communications device (e.g., base station) and a second communications device (e.g., user equipment (UE)) that uses long-term feedback information from the second communications device to maintain a beam pair link established for a downlink connection. The second communications device may transmit long-term feedback information to the first communications device in response to a request or a trigger event occurring. The long-term feedback information may be sensor information measured by the second communications device or uplink training symbols. The first communications device may localize a beam search of the beam refinement procedure using the long-term feedback information. The localized beam search may be an example of a device-specific search. The first communications device may also generate a long-term map of channel conditions based on the long-term feedback data. The long-term map may also be used to localize the search.

CALIBRATION FOR WIRELESS LOCALIZATION AND DETECTION OF VULNERABLE ROAD USERS
A method for localization of a vulnerable road user (VRU) includes receiving a received signal strength indication (RSSI) level of a wireless signal of a mobile device carried by the VRU detected by a wireless sensor in an area of interest. The detected RSSI level is compared to RSSI fingerprints stored in a fingerprinting database (DB) so as to identify an RSSI fingerprint having a closest match to the detected RSSI level. The VRU is localized at a position stored in the fingerprinting DB for the identified RSSI fingerprint.
