METHOD FOR DETERMINING STATION NAMES OF A LIST OF RADIO STATIONS
20210075531 · 2021-03-11 ·

A method for decoding the name of detected radio stations, the method being implemented by a receiving system including at least one radio receiver, each of the received radio signals including a digital datum corresponding, at least intermittently, to the name of the radio station, the method including the following steps: for each radio station belonging to a list of radio stations preselected from the detected radio stations, a first decoding of the digital datum at a first sampling frequency, in order to determine a probable name; for any detected radio station not belonging to the list of preselected radio stations, a second decoding of the digital datum at a second sampling frequency lower than the first, in order to determine a probable name; and measuring a quality of the radio signal and inhibiting the first and second decodings if the quality of the signal drops below a preset threshold.

Media channel identification and action with multi-match detection based on reference stream comparison
10939162 · 2021-03-02 · ·

A computing system will compare various reference fingerprints each representing a reference media stream broadcast on a different respective known channel, and the computing system will determine that a plurality of the reference fingerprints match each other, thus defining a multi-match group of the matching reference fingerprints. Further, the computing system will determine that a query fingerprint representing a media stream being rendered by a media presentation device matches the multi-match group, thus raising a question of which channel is carrying the media stream that is being rendered by the media presentation device. By considering one or more attributes of the query fingerprint, the server may then disambiguate and thereby determine the channel at issue, and the server may in turn take channel-specific action.

Reception apparatus, reception method, transmission apparatus, and transmission method

The present technology relates to a reception apparatus, a reception method, a transmission apparatus, and a transmission method permitting provision of an emergency warning service more suited to actual operation. Provided is a reception apparatus including a reception section and a demodulation section. The reception section receives a physical layer frame transported as a broadcast signal on the basis of monitoring information that is included in upper layer signalling, signalling in a layer higher than a physical layer, and that is used to monitor a specific service. The demodulation section demodulates physical layer signalling acquired from the physical layer frame and monitors whether emergency warning information has been transported on the basis of emergency warning notice information acquired as a result of the demodulation. In the case where the emergency warning notice information indicates that the emergency warning information has been transported, the reception apparatus starts up automatically. The present technology is applicable, for example, to a transport system for transporting a physical layer frame compliant with the DVB-T2 standard.

OVER-THE-AIR PROGRAMMING INTEGRATION WITH OVER THE TOP STREAMING SERVICES
20210083787 · 2021-03-18 ·

Various arrangements for integrating over-the-air (OTA) television programming with streaming media are presented. An OTA integration module may request, from an OTA tuner device, a stream of an OTA television channel, wherein the OTA television channel is broadcast over a geographic region on the VHF band or UHF band. The OTA integration module may receive, from the OTA tuner device, the stream of the OTA television channel. The OTA integration module may provide, to a media presentation application, the stream of the OTA television channel. The media presentation application executed by the streaming media player device may output the steam of the OTA television channel for presentation.

Media Channel Identification with Multi-Match Detection and Disambiguation Based on Time of Broadcast
20210037285 · 2021-02-04 ·

Disclosed herein are methods and systems to help disambiguate channel identification in a scenario where fingerprint data of media content being rendered by a media presentation device matches multiple reference fingerprints corresponding respectively with multiple different channels. Upon detecting such a multi-match, a server or other entity will perform disambiguation based at least in part on a comparison of time of broadcast of the media content being rendered by the media presentation device with time of broadcast of the media content represented by the reference fingerprints. The server or other entity will thereby determine the channel on which the media content being rendered by the media presentation device is arriving, so as to facilitate taking channel-specific action.

GPS assisted, radio-device communication apparatus and method for human or machine operated vehicle

An apparatus and method are disclosed to receive location data identifying the current location of a vehicle, for example an automobile or aircraft. A database, storing radio device records, is then queried. Each radio device record in the database identifies a radio device and its location. Radio device records associated with radio devices likely to be within communication range of the vehicle may then be retrieved from the database. The radio device records may be used to generate information for individual ones of radio devices which are likely to be within range of the vehicle and display that radio device information to a vehicle operator via an electronic display. The display may be updated as the vehicle travels to display radio device information as the radio devices come into range of the vehicle and remove radio device information from the display as the vehicle travels out of range.
