Optical subcarrier dual-path protection and restoration for optical communications networks
An example system includes a first network device having first circuitry. The first network device is configured to perform operations including receiving data to be transmitted to a second network device over an optical communications network, and transmitting first information and second information to the second device. The first information is indicative of the data, and is transmitted using a first communications link of the optical communications network and using a first subset of optical subcarriers. The second information is indicative of the data, and is transmitted using a second communications link of the optical communications network and using a second subset of optical subcarriers. The first subset of optical subcarriers is different from the second subset of optical subcarriers.

An intelligence-defined optical tunnel network system includes multiple Optical Switch Interconnect Sub-systems (OSIS), in which a first OSIS is configured to transmit a first lateral transmission optical signal via a first line to a second OSIS, and transmit a second lateral transmission optical signal via a second line to the second OSIS. The second OSIS includes a failover sub-module and a micro-control unit. The failover sub-module is configured to output one of the first and the second lateral transmission optical signal based on a selective signal. The micro-control unit is configured to output the selective signal to the failover sub-module to control the failover sub-module output the second lateral transmission optical signal if a signal intensity of the first lateral transmission optical signal is lower than a threshold value.
Protection apparatus for a bidirection optical link
According to embodiments of the present disclosure, apparatus is provided for protecting an optical link arranged to carry upstream optical signals and downstream optical signals. The apparatus comprises a first detector arranged to selectively detect a downstream optical signal received at a second port having a first wavelength and a second detector arranged to selectively detect a downstream optical signal received at the second port having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength. The apparatus further comprises control circuitry arranged to cause a protection switch to selectively couple a third port to the second port instead of to the first port based on the detecting by the first detector and the second detector. Also provided is a second apparatus for protecting the optical link. The second apparatus comprises a bypass element arranged to selectively direct at least a portion of an upstream optical signal at the first wavelength, received at a fourth port, such that a downstream optical signal at the first wavelength is transmitted from a fifth port.
System and method for enhancing reliability in a transport network
One embodiment of the present invention provides an optical link coupling two nodes in an optical transport network. The optical link includes a fiber span, which includes a first optical fiber, a second optical fiber, and a splitter. The input of the splitter is coupled to an input of the fiber span, and first and second outputs of the splitter are coupled, respectively, to the first and second optical fibers. The optical link further includes a first amplifier coupled to the first optical fiber, a second amplifier coupled to the second optical fiber, and an optical switch. Two inputs of the optical switch are coupled to outputs of the first and second amplifiers, respectively; and an output of the optical switch is coupled to an input of a third amplifier.
1+1 Ethernet fabric protection in a disaggregated optical transport network switching system
Methods and systems for Ethernet fabric protection in a disaggregated OTN switching system that include PIU modules each having multiple ports for OTN to Ethernet transceiving and an Ethernet fabric as a switching core are disclosed. An OTN over Ethernet module in each of the PIU modules may enable various OTN functionality to be realized using the Ethernet fabric which may include multiple Ethernet fabric planes. A PIU module may transmit Ethernet packets using a first working port over a first Ethernet fabric plane and may transmit Ethernet packets using a second working port over a second Ethernet fabric plane. When the PIU module detects a fault condition on the second Ethernet fabric plane, the PIU module may transmit Ethernet packets using a third protection port over the first Ethernet fabric plane instead of using the second working port.
OPTICAL SWITCHING SYSTEM FOR OPTICAL LINE PROTECTION IN SINGLE FIBER TRANSMISSION
Systems and methods are disclosed, including an optical switching system comprising an upstream optical signal detector between a first node and a second node configured to detect optical signals from the second node and to switch data traffic from a working path to a protecting path when optical signals from the second node are indicative of a failure in the working path; wherein the first node is configured to transmit data traffic in first optical signals with wavelengths in channels in a first band and receive the data traffic in second optical signals with wavelengths in channels in a second band from the second node; and one or more optical filter, between the second node and the upstream optical signal detector, configured to block signals with wavelengths in the first band that are reflected because of a break in the path between the optical filter and the second node.
Method and system for establishing at least two bidirectional communication links using coherent detection
A method for establishing bidirectional communication links includes: supplying, to at least two optical transceiver modules at each side of at least two optical paths, a multiplexed optical CW signal comprising at least two optical CW signals having the same differing wavelengths, and modulating the multiplexed optical CW signal according to modulation signals; creating, at each side of the optical paths, at least two first and second optical transmit signals by optically filtering the modulated optical signals so that only a single wavelength remains, and routing pairs of a first and second optical transmit signal to the optical paths, wherein the optical transmit signals of each pair have differing wavelengths and wherein the optical transmit signals transmitted in the same direction over the same optical paths have differing wavelengths; receiving each optical transmit signals at a dedicated optical transceiver module by mixing it with the multiplexed optical CW signal.

Apparatus for protecting an optical link
According to the present invention, there is provided apparatus for providing protection of an optical link. The apparatus comprises a first port for coupling to the optical link and a second port for coupling to a further optical link. The apparatus further comprises a third port configured to receive an upstream optical signal to be transmitted over the optical link, and to output a downstream optical signal received over the optical link. The apparatus further comprises protection switching apparatus operable to selectively couple the third port to the first port or to the second port. The apparatus further comprises modifying apparatus configured to modify the upstream optical signal, received at the third port, before it is output from the first port, such that the switching upstream optical signal has a distinctive physical characteristic. The apparatus further comprises detecting apparatus, coupled between the first port and the third port, configured to receive a portion of an incoming optical signal, received at the first port, and to selectively detect the presence of the upstream optical signal or the downstream optical signal in the portion of the incoming signal based on the distinctive physical characteristic. The apparatus further comprises control circuitry configured to provide a control signal to the protection switching apparatus based on an output from the detecting apparatus.
