Low-Complexity Method for Identifying Downlink Messages in 5G and 6G

Currently in 5G and 6G, user devices are required to search a large number of possible combinations of frequencies, start times, message lengths, and error-codes to find their downlink control messages. Disclosed is a faster and much simpler method for user devices to determine which downlink messages are intended for which user device, and also to determine the beginning and ending of each message within a stream of arriving data. The base station can affix a predetermined demarcation bit-sequence to the beginning of each message, and a different demarcation to the ending of the message. As an option, the demarcations may also serve as a demodulation reference, including predetermined amplitudes of the modulation scheme, immediately proximate to the message. Downlink demarcations may also include a characteristic feature, such as a gap of no transmission, for easy recognition and for evaluating noise.

Dynamic switching of power levels in device having different wireless communication circuits

A method can include an integrated circuit device, determining if first communication circuits are operating in a first mode that wirelessly receives data at a first rate or a second mode that wirelessly receives data at a second rate that is lower than the first rate. If the first communication circuits are operating in the second mode, transmitting signals with the second communication circuits at a first power level, and if operating in the first mode, transmitting signals with the second communication circuits at a second power level that is lower than the first power level. In the first mode, X symbols per data bit are received and in the second mode, Y symbols per data bit are received, where X<Y. Corresponding devices and methods are also disclosed.

Resource-efficient custom downlink search-space in 5G/6G

In 5G and 6G, a user device is expected to perform an arduous blind search in each downlink control space to detect its DCI (downlink control information) messages. To save energy and complexity, especially for reduced-capability IoT applications, low-complexity procedures are disclosed that enable each user to request a custom search-space comprising one or more specific times and frequencies. Each downlink control or data message then starts in the custom search-space. The data or control messages may include the user's ID code, in plain text (as opposed to complex encoding) and/or the length of the message, so that the user can readily identify its messages. The user device may thereby readily separate its messages from the stream of incoming data. Result: saved time and energy, fewer dropped messages, and generally improved network performance, especially for simpler processors and devices.

TECHNIQUES FOR MASKING AND UNMASKING CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK BITS FOR EARLY TERMINATION OF DECODING

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a receiving node may determine a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) based at least in part on log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) associated with downlink control information (DCI) received from a transmitting node. The receiving node may perform a full unmasking of the CRC using a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) based at least in part on a descrambling of the CRC with the RNTI, wherein a number of bits associated with the RNTI is associated with a number of bits associated with the CRC. The receiving node may initiate an early termination of a decoding of the LLRs based at least in part on the full unmasking of the CRC. Numerous other aspects are described.

Wireless communications systems and methods related to system information communications and decoding are provided. In one embodiment, a wireless communication device receives one or more known bits. The wireless communication device receives a first encoded information block. The wireless communication device decodes the first encoded information block to generate a first information block based on the one or more known bits. In one embodiment, a wireless communication device receives a first encoded information block including a first bit pattern. The wireless communication device receives a second encoded information block including a second bit pattern. The wireless communication device jointly decodes the first encoded information block and the second encoded information block based on an assumption that a difference between the first bit pattern and the second bit pattern is within a subset of a plurality of bit-change patterns.

Low-complexity message formats and procedures are disclosed, greatly simplifying the task of user devices in recognizing downlink messages in 5G/6G. A user device, not requiring high performance or low latency, may request a “custom search-space” in which downlink messages may be transmitted by the base station, thereby greatly reducing the calculation overhead of the user device. In addition, message formats are disclosed that may enable rapid identification of relevant messages, and rejection of other messages, without performing a “blind search” and other arduous procedures. In addition, messaging protocols are disclosed that may avoid unnecessary control signaling, thereby saving time and energy. Low-cost wireless devices may be enabled by such low-complexity options in future wireless networks.

Scrambling sequence design for multi-mode block discrimination on DCI blind detection

Methods and devices are described for polar encoding and decoding control information that has been modulated based on one or more identifiers of the transmitter and/or receiver. Some embodiments describe scrambling sequence design for multi-mode block discrimination on control information blind detection and decoding. Separate scrambling masks may be applied to disparate bit fields within a coded DCI message, wherein each of the scrambling masks is derived from a user equipment (UE)-specific identifier, a UE group identifier, or a base station identifier. Frozen bits of the polar code may be used to encode and transmit hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) acknowledgment messaging for early retransmission of unsuccessful downlink messages. A tiered process of UE identification may be employed to improve a balance between early termination of the decoding process and success of the UE identification process.
