QUANTUM REPEATERS FOR CONCATENATED QUANTUM ERROR CORRECTION, AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
20230206110 · 2023-06-29 ·

Quantum repeaters and network architectures use two concatenated quantum error correction codes to increase the transmission range of quantum information. A block of data qubits collectively encode a second-layer logical qubit according to a second-layer code concatenated with a first-layer code. A first-layer quantum repeater first-layer corrects each data qubit based on a first-layer syndrome extracted therefrom. The first-layer quantum repeater transmits these first-layer-corrected qubits to a second-layer quantum repeater via a quantum communication channel. The first-layer quantum repeater also transmits the first-layer syndromes to the second-layer quantum repeater via a classical communication channel. After extracting a second-layer syndrome from the first-layer-corrected qubits, the second-layer quantum repeater uses the first-layer syndromes and second-layer syndrome to second-layer correct the first-layer-corrected qubits. The first-layer syndromes improve quantum error correction by reducing the number of sec-and-layer stabilizer measurements needed to determine which data qubits have an error.

METHOD, SYSTEM, AND APPARATUS FOR A SEGMENTED POLARIZATION-ADJUSTED CONVOLUTIONAL (PAC) CODE

A codeword is generated based on a segmentation transform and a Polarization-Assisted Convolutional (PAC) code that includes an outer convolutional code and a polar code, and based on separate encoding of respective different segments of convolutionally encoded input bits according to the polar code. Each segment of the respective segments includes multiple bits of the convolutionally encoded input bits for which the separate encoding of the segment is independent of the separate encoding of other segments. Separate decoding may be applied to segments of such a codeword to decode convolutionally encoded input bits corresponding to the separately encoded segments of the convolutionally encoded input bits.

The present disclosure discloses a new coding scheme, which is constructed by superimposing together a pair of basic codes in a twisted manner. A SCL decoding algorithm is proposed for the TPST codes, which may be early terminated by a preset threshold on the empirical divergence functions (EDF) to trade off performance with decoding complexity. The SCL decoding of TPST is based on the efficient list decoding of the basic codes, where the correct candidate codeword in the decoding list is distinguished by employing a typicality-based statistical learning aided decoding algorithm. Lower bounds for the two layers of TPST are derived, which may be used to predict the decoding performance and to show the near-ML performance of the proposed SCL decoding algorithm. The construction of TPST codes may be generalised by allowing different basic codes for the two layers.
