A method for allocating and pricing access to alternative access networks may include: inputting, by one or more parties, needs for alternative network access and representative values for satisfying the needs; setting, by providers of alternative network access, reserve prices for access to each of access point in the alternative network; generating a solution based on a mixed integer program to maximize value created by allocation of alternative network access; and allocating alternative network access to the one or more parties based on the mixed integer program solution.

Systems, methods, and devices use a wireless device's capability to transmit and/or receive data over multiple communication pathways to improve data transmission quality. In the various embodiments, the same continuous data stream may be transmitted and/or received via different communication pathways. Different communication pathways may be established using different antennas of a wireless device, different wireless networks, different wireless communications protocols, and/or additional wireless devices. The continuous data stream may be transmitted and/or received via different communication pathways in a manner that enables the continuous data stream to be reconstructed from one or more of the different communication pathways. Additional communication pathways may be established based on user input indicating a voice call is high priority and/or approving the expenditure of additional resources.

The TCs may depend on a number of variables including one or more of the following: price, availability, relative signal strengths and communication speeds of different cellular base pay and or access points and connections through the stations or access points to the Internet or other backend systems, the location and possible motion of the device, the time of day, week, month or year as well as the cost of communication alternatives.

A host device set as the mobile AP determines whether a data-less mode is set, blocks a client device from using the external data network via the mobile AP, if the data-less mode is set, and permits the client device to use the external data network via the mobile AP, if the data-less mode is released. A client device connected to a mobile AP determines whether a data-less mode is set for a host device set as the mobile AP, if the client device is connected to the host device in a state of being connected to a wireless data network, maintains the connection to the wireless data network, if the data-less mode is set, and releases the connection to the wireless data network, if the data-less mode is released.

A method of managing data traffic offload from a radio access network may include: determining a location of a mobile device; and identifying, based on data traffic offload requirements of a network operator and capabilities of alternative network providers, one or more alternative networks configured to be accessed by the mobile device at the determined location.
