Corrosion Mitigation for an External Connector of an Electronic Device

A voltage of a first pin that is one of several pins of an external connector of a system is measured, while the first pin is un-driven except for being pulled to ground through a first resistance, and a second pin of the external connector is being used as a power supply rail of the system. The measured voltage is compared to a short circuit threshold and in response to that threshold being exceeded, the power supply voltage on the second pin is reduced. In such an embodiment, no test stimulus needs to be applied to any of the pins of the external connector. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Wire fault and electrical imbalance detection for power over communications cabling

In one embodiment, a method includes transmitting power in a power and data distribution system comprising at least two pairs of wires, negotiating a power level between Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and a Powered Device (PD) in the power and data distribution system, transmitting the power at a power level greater than 100 watts, periodically checking each of the wires for a fault, and checking for an electrical imbalance at the wires.

Onboard controller for multistate windows

Onboard EC window controllers are described. The controllers are configured in close proximity to the EC window, for example, within the IGU. The controller may be part of a window assembly, which includes an IGU having one or more EC panes, and thus does not have to be matched with the EC window, and installed, in the field. The window controllers described herein have a number of advantages because they are matched to the IGU containing one or more EC devices and their proximity to the EC panes of the window overcomes a number of problems associated with conventional controller configurations.

Computational accelerator for storage operations

A system includes a host processor, which has a host memory and is coupled to store data in a non-volatile memory in accordance with a storage protocol. A network interface controller (NIC) receives data packets conveyed over a packet communication network from peer computers containing, in payloads of the data packets, data records that encode data in accordance with the storage protocol for storage in the non-volatile memory. The NIC processes the data records in the data packets that are received in order in each flow from a peer computer and extracts and writes the data to the host memory, and when a data packet arrives out of order, writes the data packet to the host memory without extracting the data and processes the data packets in the flow so as to recover context information for use in processing the data records in subsequent data packets in the flow.

Controlling power of electronic devices on a vehicle

Among other things, techniques are described for controlling power of electronic devices of a vehicle. For example, a vehicle includes a power source, a power distribution unit configured to control power to at least one electronic device from the power source, a first processor configured for communicating power commands to the power distribution unit. The power distribution unit comprises a second processor configured to execute computer executable instructions stored in computer-readable medium for carrying out operations including adjusting a power distribution from the vehicle power source to the at least one electronic device based on a power command received from the first processor.

Power-over-ethernet (PoE) device and PoE system using the same

A PoE system includes a plurality of PoE devices and a hub that are coupled in a ring configuration through a plurality of network cables. The hub is coupled to two of the network cables, and provides electric power to at least one of the network cables that is coupled to the hub. Each of the PoE devices is coupled to two of the network cables, receives electric power from one of the two network cables, and supplies electric power to the other one of the two network cables. As a consequence, each of the PoE devices can be directly or indirectly powered by the hub.

Port adaptation method and device

A port adaptation method applied to a network device including a port adaptation apparatus includes probing whether the first port and the second port are connected to power sourcing equipment, and maintaining or switching one of the first port and the second port that is connected to power sourcing equipment as, or to, a powered state, and a state of the other port as, or to, a powering state.

A contactless PoE connection system and a contactless PoE connector for use in the connection system, in which the contactless PoE connector has a first contactless interface configured for bidirectional data transfer, a second contactless interface configured for unidirectional power transfer, and a third interface to which a first Ethernet line can be connected. The third interface is configured to receive data and power, which are to be transferred jointly via the Ethernet line. Furthermore, a data and power splitting device are connected to the first, second, and third interfaces, which splitting device is configured for splitting power and data as applied to the third interface and for selectively supplying data to the first contactless interface and for selectively supplying power to the second contactless interface.

Integrated console and network management access using an out-of-band-management device

A bidirectional out-of-band management (OOBM) dongle comprises a serial port for receiving console traffic from a console port of a managed switch and an Ethernet port for receiving management port traffic from a management port of the managed switch. In operation, the OOBM dongle multiplexes, via an optional adapter, the console traffic and the management port traffic and generates Ethernet traffic that is then communicated, via an OOBM port on the dongle, to an OOBM switch port of an OOBM switch that acts as a power sourcing device for the OOBM dongle.
