One example method to improve communication performance includes receiving a set of pilots over a transmission channel between the wireless communication apparatus and a far-end communication apparatus, the transmission channel comprising a first portion that is time-invariant and a second portion that is time-variant, processing the received set of pilots to generate an estimate of the first portion, processing the received set of pilots to generate an estimate of the second portion, and performing a communication based on a channel state information that is a weighted combination of a first term based on the estimate of the first portion and a second term based on the estimate of the second portion.

Systems and methods are disclosed for constrained receiver parameter optimization. Two parameter optimization functions may be applied, with one function providing constraints on the results of the second function in order to determine a parameter set to apply in the receiver. A method may comprise determining a first parameter set based on a first function, determining a second parameter set based on a second function different from the first function, and determining a third parameter set by using the first parameter set to define a subset of a parameter space to which to limit values from the second parameter set. In certain embodiments, a least squares function may be used to constrain the results of a general cost function.

Channel estimation by continuous time-domain parameter extraction

Methods and apparatus of channel estimation using time-domain parameter extraction are disclosed. The wireless channel can be modeled by a multipath model with a limited number of parameters in the continuous time domain. Extracting the time-domain parameters and then reconstructing the channel yields channel estimates that have better accuracy. Time-domain parameter extraction also has lower computational complexity than existing methods.

The UE includes at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium; and at least one processor, which, when executing instructions stored on the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium, causes the UE to perform a method including calculating an estimated frequency offset (FO) correction for a received signal using at least an FO estimation generated by an automatic frequency control (AFC) module using at least a previously-calculated channel estimate output from a channel estimator (CE) as input in a first feedback loop; and calculating, by the CE, a current channel estimate using at least the received signal adjusted by the estimated FO correction from the first feedback loop and one or more channel parameter estimates generated by the AFC using at least the previously-calculated channel estimate output from the CE as input in a second feedback loop.
