This disclosure relates to a receiver comprising a clock and data recovery loop and a phase offset loop. The clock and data recovery loop may be controlled by a sum of gradients for a plurality of data interleaves. The phase offset loop may be controlled by an accumulated differential gradient for each of the data interleaves.

PARTIAL RESPONSE RECEIVER

A signaling system is described. The signaling system comprises a transmit device, a receive device including a partial response receive circuit, and a signaling path coupling the transmit device and the receive device. The receive device observes an equalized signal from the signaling path, and includes circuitry to use feedback from the most recent previously resolved symbol to sample a currently incoming symbol. The transmit device equalizes transmit data to transmit the equalized signal, by applying weighting based on one or more data values not associated with the most recent previously resolved symbol value.

Soft value extraction method and device applicable to OvXDM system, and OvXDM system

This application discloses a soft value extraction method and device applicable to an OvXDM system, and the OvXDM system. In the method, waveform coding is performed on all symbols in a hard value sequence, to generate a predictive value after overlapped coding; the symbols in the hard value sequence are reversed one by one, and overlapped coding is performed on each reversed symbol and associated symbols before and after the reversed symbol, to generate a predictive value of the reversed symbol; and for each symbol in the hard value sequence, a soft value of the current symbol is calculated based on A(custom character.sup.+1custom character.sup.1), where A is a coefficient related to a channel type, custom character.sup.+1=y.sub.rxy.sup.+1, and custom character.sup.1=y.sub.rxy.sup.1.sup.2; if y.sup.+1 is a predictive value of the symbol obtained after overlapped coding and before reversing, y.sup.1 is a predictive value of the symbol obtained after overlapped coding and reversing; and y.sub.rx is a received signal sequence.

Deterioration of convergence performance or operational stability due to an increase in constraint length is suppressed when coefficients are updated, so that decoding performance is improved. A decoding device according to the present technology includes an adaptive equalization unit that performs adaptive equalization, an adaptive maximum likelihood decoding unit that causes an identification point of maximum likelihood decoding to adaptively follow a characteristic of an input signal, a target waveform generation unit that, by convoluting a partial response coefficient into a decoded value, generates an equalization target waveform of the adaptive equalization which is performed by the adaptive equalization unit, an error signal generation unit that generates, as an equalization error signal, an error signal between the equalization target waveform and an equalized signal, and a coefficient updating unit that, through least-square-method computation for minimizing a correlation between the decoded value and the equalization error signal, updates the partial response coefficient which is used by the target waveform generation unit to generate the equalization target waveform.

Methods and apparatus that enable one or more wireless networks to minimize inter-cellular interference (ICI) at a receiver. In one embodiment, the network comprises an OFDM-based cellular network, and the method comprises utilizing a priori knowledge of non-data portions of signals from multiple base stations in order to schedule transmissions. In one variant, these non-data portions comprise pilot tones; the pilot tones can be scheduled onto various time-frequency resources of the network so as to minimize ICI. The mobility context of the receiver can also be used as a basis for dynamically adjusting the pilot tone density. In another variant, precoding (e.g., Tomlinson-Harashima precoding) can be applied to shape the non-data portions of the transmitted signals so as to mitigate ICI. In yet other variants, frame preambles and learning sequences are used as the basis for invoking selective transmission time shifts across the potentially interfering base stations so as to minimize ICI.

The invention relates to a method for channel estimation in a wireless communication system. The communication system includes a communication unit provided with a plurality of antennas, and one or more terminals. First, pilot signals are transmitted from each antenna towards the one or more terminals. At the terminals correlative coding is performed with respect to the transmitted pilot signals to form correlatively coded pilot signals. The correlatively coded pilot signals are then retransmitted from the one or more terminals to the plurality of antennas of the communication unit. The communication unit then estimates uplink channels between the one or more terminals and the plurality of antennas based on the correlatively coded pilot signals. Finally, estimates of the downlink channels between the plurality of antennas and the one or more terminals are obtained based on the estimated uplink channels.
