Impulse-radio receiver and method

A communication device and method include a reconfigurable receiver that is reconfigurable between communication, ranging and radar modes. The reconfigurable receiver includes a mixer configured to mix digital samples with a carrier phase estimate signal and configured to generate in-phase digital samples based on the carrier phase estimate. The reconfigurable receiver further includes a symbol correlator configured to correlate against the in-phase digital samples and generate correlated data, and a symbol binning unit configured to bin the correlated data and generate a first order channel impulse response estimate. The reconfigurable receiver yet further includes a multiplexer configured to switch the digital samples to the symbol binning unit when the reconfigurable receiver is configured in radar mode and to switch the correlated data to the symbol binning unit when the reconfigurable receiver is configured in a ranging mode.

MODULAR CARRIER RECOVERY

A method at a receiver comprises receiving a signal conveying symbols at respective positions within a clock cycle, the symbols comprising a data set consisting of data symbols and a pilot set consisting of pilot symbols; determining detected phases of the symbols based on the signal; generating first phase estimates based on the detected phases of a subset of the pilot set, and reference phases of the subset of the pilot set, the first phase estimates being associated with the positions of the pilot set; and generating second phase estimates based on the detected phases of the pilot set, reference phases of the pilot set, and the first phase estimates, the second phase estimates being associated with the positions of the pilot set and of at least a subset of the data set; and applying rotations to the detected phases of the symbols based on the second phase estimates.

PHASE CALIBRATION METHOD AND DEVICE

A phase calibration method includes: segmenting a received measurement sequence according to a preset rule; respectively determining a phase calibration factor of each of segmented measurement sequences, wherein the each of the segmented measurement sequences respectively corresponds to a segmented phase; and when performing a phase calibration on a sequence to be verified, according to a matching relation between a phase of the sequence to be verified and the each of the segmented phases, using the phase calibration factor corresponding to a matched segmented phase to perform the phase calibration on the sequence to be verified. The embodiments of the phase calibration method and the device are equivalent to dividing a non-linear measurement sequence into several approximately linear measurement sequences, and then calibrating each of the several approximately linear measurement sequences using a corresponding phase calibration factor respectively.

Angle of arrival measurements using RF carrier synchronization and phase alignment methods

A method for determining an angle of arrival (AOA) of a received signal is disclosed, comprising: generating a baseband information signal by mixing a received signal with a local oscillator (LO) signal, the received signal being an in-phase signal and quadrature signal uncorrelated with each other and derived from different input data sets; obtaining baseband signal samples of the baseband information signal having an in-phase signal sample and a quadrature signal sample; determining a transmitter phase offset based on an estimated correlation between the in-phase signal samples and the quadrature signal samples; performing a plurality of phase measurements using a plurality of antennas to obtain a plurality of phase measurements; correcting the plurality of phase measurements based on the transmitter phase offset to produce a plurality of corrected phase measurement; and calculating an AOA of the received signal based on the difference between the plurality of corrected phase measurements.

The processor logic is configured to determine an optimal inphase offset and optimal quadrature offset. The processor logic is configured to update the reference constellation using the optimal inphase offset and the optimal quadrature offset.

Clustering-based methods, apparatuses for frequency offset determination and elimination and electronic devices are disclosed. The clustering-based method for frequency offset determination includes: determining a constellation diagram for a received signal; determining N different values within a preset frequency interval, as N frequency offset estimates for a frequency offset of the received signal; for each of the frequency offset estimates, correcting the constellation diagram based on the frequency offset estimate to obtain a corrected constellation diagram, clustering signal points on the corrected constellation diagram, and calculating an area of a signal region in the corrected constellation diagram after clustering; and determining a frequency offset estimate corresponding to a signal region with a minimum area as a value of the frequency offset. The embodiments of the present invention can improve the accuracy and stability of the calculated value of the frequency offset.

An apparatus and a method for synchronizing a Digital Frequency Shift (DFS) for a signal to be transmitted over a wireless channel are disclosed. For example, the method, by a synchronizer, transmits a DFS trigger to a Digital Front End (DFE) processor and a Local Oscillator (LO) trigger to an LO in a synchronous manner, the method, by the DFE processor, applies a DFS on received data in response to receiving the DFS trigger, the method, by the LO, applies a complementary shift on a carrier signal in response to receiving the LO trigger, the method, by the upconverter, digital-to-analog converts and radio frequency modulates the digital frequency-shifted received data and the complementary-shifted carrier signal. In another example, the method, by the synchronizer, transmits a phase error to a phase error corrector that performs a phase error correction.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENHANCING RECEPTION IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

A method, an apparatus and a computer program product for enhancing reception of signals in a wireless communication system. A signal containing a frame including a plurality of symbols is received on an uplink communication channel. An angular position of at least one symbol in the plurality of symbols in a constellation of symbols is detected. The plurality of symbols include equalized symbols. An angular difference corresponding a phase error between the detected angular position of the symbol and an expected reference angular position in the constellation of symbols corresponding to an expected reference symbol corresponding to the received frame is determined. Using the determined phase error, a phase of the symbol is compensated.
