Secure Wireless Network Using Radiometric Signatures
20170257300 · 2017-09-07 ·

A network security system for wireless devices derives a fingerprint from the modulation imperfections of the analog circuitry of the wireless transceivers. These fingerprints may be compared to templates obtained when the wireless devices are initially commissioned in a secure setting and used to augment passwords or other security tools in detecting intruders on the network.

A method of communication includes receiving configuration data at a first device, the configuration data indicating a first packet loss rate threshold associated with a first codec configuration. The method includes determining a packet loss rate at the first device, the packet loss rate associated with one or more first packets received at the first device from a second device. The method includes, based on determining that a decoder of the first device has the first codec configuration and that the packet loss rate satisfies the first packet loss rate threshold, sending, to the second device, a request to change a codec configuration of the second device. The method also includes receiving a second packet at the first device from the second device, the second packet encoded based on a second codec configuration.

OPTIMIZED DATA STREAMING DETECTION AND PRIORITIZATION

An example method may include receiving first data packets intended for a client device at a virtual private network (VPN) server, receiving, concurrently with the first data packets, second data packets at the VPN server, identifying, via the VPN server, whether the first or second packets correspond to a real-time streaming session based on one or more of header information and packet size of the first and second packets and a transmission rate associated with the first and second packets, prioritizing the first data packets, identified as real-time streaming session data packets, to be delivered to the client device prior to the second data packets, identified as non-real-time streaming session data packets, and performing connection bonding or connection mirroring using two or more connections when one or more of a data packet loss rate is above a threshold packet loss rate and the transmission rate is below a threshold transmission rate.

PACKET CODING BASED NETWORK COMMUNICATION

A method for data communication between a first node and a second node over a data path includes estimating a rate at which loss events occur, where a loss event is either an unsuccessful delivery of a single packet to the second data node or an unsuccessful delivery of a plurality of consecutively transmitted packets to the second data node, and sending redundancy messages at the estimate rate at which loss events occur.

Method and device for multi-path retransmission in a network

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods and devices for data transmission by a switch. The method can include transmitting, by the switch, over a first path, a first packet that is received from a first host to a second host; receiving a replacement packet from the first host, wherein the replacement packet is transmitted from the first host in response to a determination that the first packet was lost and wherein the replacement packet includes a path indicator; and based on the path indicator of the replacement packet, transmitting, over a second path different from the first path, at least part of the replacement packet to the second host.

Systems and methods include receiving a request for a path in a network including a plurality of network elements interconnected to one another via links, wherein the request includes values for a plurality of criteria, wherein the plurality of criteria include one or more of trust, privacy, and secrecy; utilizing a multi-criteria path selection process to determine the path through the plurality of network elements over the links based on the plurality of criteria and the associated values; and providing a display of the determined path in a network map. The trust quantifies trustworthiness of each link in the network and the values of trust are any of a rating and a selection for inclusion or exclusion, the privacy quantifies a number of the links the network path is routed over for network obfuscation, and the secrecy quantifies a level of encryption utilized on the links.

Estimating end-to-end network packet loss

The numbers of packets transmitted and packets lost for network devices in a computer network are used to estimate a probability of end-to-end packet loss for traffic between a source-destination pair in the network. Metrics of packet transmission and loss at each network device interface are passively collected and transmitted to a network monitoring unit, which uses the metrics to calculate probability of successful packet transmission at each hop. For a particular end-to-end path between the source-destination pair, the network monitoring unit combines the probabilities of successful packet transmission for the hops along the path to yield a probability of successful end-to-end packet transmission. Probability of packet loss along the end-to-end path is determined based on the probability of successful end-to-end packet transmission. Alternatively, the network monitoring unit can estimate which available end-to-end paths between the source-destination pair have a probability of packet loss that satisfies a predetermined loss threshold.

Methods and systems for monitoring a service provided over a packet-switched network

Methods and systems for monitoring a service provided over a packet-switched network, such as an Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service, an Internet access service, or a voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) telephony service. Various parameters related to the service (e.g., parameters indicative of packet loss, packet corruption, or other packet error) are determined and used to assess various aspects of the service and/or network over which the service is delivered, including a quality of experience (QoE) of subscribers.

Distinguishing network vs server issues when diagnosing application performance problems

A facility to determine if performance issues between two host computers in a data network includes a central controller identifying endpoints of a flow path between the two hosts. The central controller communicates with endpoint network devices to initiate telemetry tagging traffic on the flow path. A collector receives telemetry communicated in a packet from network devices on the flow path. A network operator can view the collected telemetry to assess whether the performance issue is in the network or not.
