Electronic Device with Hinge Defining an Asymmetrical Service Loop for a Flexible Display and Corresponding Systems and Methods

An electronic device includes a hinge coupling at least a first device housing to a second device housing. A flexible display is coupled to the first device housing and the second device housing and spans the hinge. The first device housing defines a curvilinear recess forming at least some of the flexible display into an asymmetrical service loop when the first device housing and the second device housing pivot about the hinge from an axially displaced open position to a closed position. Additional hinges and device housings can be added to accommodate flexible displays of varying lengths.

MODEM-BASED FORM FACTOR SENSOR

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to be positioned in different possible physical configurations and may identify its current physical configuration based on a modem-based sensor. The UE may transmit a signal from a first antenna element and receive an echo of the signal at a second antenna element different than the first antenna element. The UE may then generate an echo signature for the echo of the signal and determine that the UE is in a first physical configuration (e.g., its current physical configuration) from the possible physical configurations by comparing the generated echo signature to a set of echo signatures that correspond to each of the possible physical configurations. Accordingly, based on the determined first physical configuration, the UE may perform an operating system function that corresponds to the first physical configuration.

Hinge for a foldable-type mobile device

A hinge module including a first body; a second body arranged with respect to the first body; a hinge configured to hinge in response to an angle variation between the first body and the second body; and a display disposed on the first body and the second body. Further, the hinge includes a first hinge housing including an accommodating portion; a second hinge housing having a first end inserted in the accommodating portion; an arc-shaped hinge hole in the second hinge housing; a hinge pin projecting from an inner surface of the accommodating portion of the first hinge housing and penetrating the arc-shaped hinge hole in the second hinge housing; a guide pin coupled to the first hinge housing and inserted into a second end of the second hinge housing; and an elastic member provided in the second end of the second hinge housing and including a curved surface contacting the guide pin.

HOUSING FEATURES OF AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE

An enclosure and a method for forming an enclosure are disclosed. The enclosure may be formed from metal, such as aluminum, and further include a non-metal portion allowing for transmission and receipt of electromagnetic waves. The non-metal portion may be interlocked to the enclosure and in particular, to a region within the enclosure including a first material having a relatively high strength and stiffness compared to the non-metal portion. Interlocking means may include forming dovetail cuts into the enclosure to receive the non-metal portion, a hole or cavity drilled into the enclosure which includes internal threads, and a rod inserted into the first material to provide a tension to the non-metal portion. Methods of assembling internal components using anodization are also disclosed.

Display system having a continuous flexible display with display supports

A display system comprises a continuous flexible display and two main display supports being hingeably connected with respect to each other between a closed storage position and a planar open position for fixing the flexible display in an open position. Each of the supports is structurally configured to support respectively a first and a second portion of the flexible display, a segment of the flexible display is located between the said respective portions of the flexible display in the open position. The display system comprises a spring force biased mechanism operative in either the open or closed position or both the open and closed positions of the flexible display, biasing said segment of the flexible display in the respective position.
