A system and method for vehicle safety that automatically controls a communication device provided with a motion detection system which provides the motion of the vehicle to a micro-processing unit embedded in a communication device that disables certain functions of the communication device depending on the speed of the vehicle. The inventive system includes a sensor to detect vehicle motion and a set of instructions stored inside a non-volatile storage media coupled to processor. When a motion is detected, the system gets initiated and alters the functionality of the communication device depending upon the speed of the vehicle.

A hands-free apparatus enables a hands-free call by being wirelessly connected to a mobile phone that stores therein history data including incoming call history data and outgoing call history data, and phonebook data. The hands-free apparatus is configured to: perform control of connecting to the mobile phone by a transfer protocol for transferring the history data and the phonebook data; receive the history data and the phonebook data from the mobile phone by the transfer protocol when the mobile phone is present in a wireless connection area; and display an error and display a reconnection screen for receiving an instruction for reconnection by the transfer protocol with the mobile phone from a user, on a display, when connection by the transfer protocol with the mobile phone is disconnected during reception of at least one of the history data and the phonebook data.

The mobile device determines whether or not the mobile device is located within an effective area, based on the reception strength and the strength information. The mobile device acquires correction information indicating characteristics of the reception strength corresponding to a mobile state quantity and corrects the strength information based on the mobile state quantity and the correction information.

The driver mode system is adapted to transition the phone between the normal mode and the driver mode. Responsive to incoming text-based messages from message senders when the phone is in the driver mode, the text-based message system automatically sends the driver mode reply message to the message senders, thereby alleviating the driver's urge to check and reply to the incoming text-based messages.

An original equipment manufacturer (OEM) human-machine interface (HMI) device operation of a non-OEM handheld mobile device is provided. A non-OEM handheld mobile device can be coupled with a vehicle network of a vehicle. The vehicle can include a head unit with a display. An OEM HMI can be presented on a display of the non-OEM handheld mobile device. Thus, the non-OEM handheld mobile device provides functionality associated with the head unit and/or functionality not associated with the vehicle. Responsive to receiving an input on the OEM HMI presented on the non-OEM handheld mobile device, a setting or control of a vehicle device can be caused to be adjusted. Alternatively or in addition, responsive to receiving an input on a vehicle OEM HMI, a setting or control of the non-OEM handheld mobile device can be caused to be adjusted.

Systems and methods are provided for transportation-related mobile device context inferences. In one implementation a first visual capture can be received from a first visual capture component of a device; a second visual capture can be received from a second visual capture component of the device; and the first visual capture and the second visual capture can be processed by a processing device to determine an in-vehicle role of a user of the device.
