A captioning relay for captioning hearing user (HU) voice signals comprising a plurality of separate captioning resources and a captioning administrator module that receives HU voice signal segments corresponding to a plurality of separate ongoing calls between HUs and AUs and provides the voice signal segments in a first in, first out order to the captioning resources, the administrator module providing each voice signal segment from each call to any one of the captioning resources to be captioned without regard to which captioning resource captioned prior voice signal segments generated during the call and, the administrator module further receiving caption segments back from the captioning resources and providing those captioning segments to AU devices associated with the calls that generated corresponding HU voice signal segments, and wherein the number of captioning resources is less than the number of ongoing calls.

One embodiment provides a method, including: receiving, on a keyboard of an information handling device, typing input from a user, wherein the typing input comprises at least one letter; determining, using a processor, at least one completion suggestion stemming from the at least one letter; and presenting, responsive to the determining, the at least one completion suggestion to the user, wherein the presented at least one completion suggestion comprises at least one animation portraying a signed motion corresponding to the at least one completion suggestion. The method may also include presenting the captioned words on a first display of the first captioning telephone device, receiving text typed into the second telephone device by the second user, and presenting the received text on the first display of the first captioning telephone device.

A method may include obtaining first audio data of a communication session between a first device and a second device and obtaining, during the communication session, a first text string that is a transcription of the first audio data. The method may further include directing the first text string to the first device for presentation of the first text string during the communication session and obtaining, during the communication session, a second text string that is a transcription of the first audio data. The method may further include comparing a first accuracy score of the first word to a second accuracy score of the second word and in response to a difference between the first accuracy score and the second accuracy score satisfying a threshold, directing the second word to the first device to replace the first word in the first location as displayed by the first device.

A method for operating a hearing system is specified. The hearing system includes a hearing aid, which is worn by a user. The hearing system includes an auxiliary device, which includes a camera, by which a real-time image is recorded of a current environment. The auxiliary device includes a display screen, on which the real-time image is output, so that the environment is displayed on the display screen. The hearing aid transmits an item of information to the auxiliary device, which is linked to a section of the environment and is thus an item of information with respect to this section. The information is also displayed on the display screen, in that an image element is generated and is overlaid with the real-time image in such a way that it is recognizable for the user with which section of the environment the information is linked.

Technologies related to telecommunications are described herein, wherein such technologies are configured to assist users with hearing impairments. The technologies described herein cause transcriptions of spoken utterances directed to a telephone in a telephone conversation to be presented on a display of the telephone nearly simultaneously with the spoken utterances being audibly output by the telephone.
