According to some embodiments, an image forming apparatus includes at least one storage device, a detection unit, and a control unit. The at least one storage device is logically dividable into a plurality of storage areas each capable of construction of a file system. The detection unit detects an abnormal access to the storage device. The control unit, in response to detection of the abnormal access, performs, for a storage area in which the abnormal access is detected, a recovery action corresponding to the storage area. If the storage area in which the abnormal access is detected does not correspond to a predetermined storage area, the control unit checks and fixes the storage area as the recovery action for the storage area in which the abnormal access is detected.

An image forming device operates in a first operation when executing a first program and operates in a second operation when executing a second program. A controller of the image forming device transmits first USB configuration information to a terminal device when operated in a first operation and transmit second USB configuration information to the terminal device when operated in a second operation. The image forming device does not communicate with the terminal device when operated in the second operation in a case where the second USB configuration information is not transmitted to the terminal device, and communicates with the terminal device by transmitting the second USB configuration information in a case where operating in the second operation and communicating with the terminal device which receives the first USB configuration information.

An image forming device includes: an image forming unit that forms an image on a transfer medium; and a controller that controls multiple image readers capable of performing image reading for the same surface of the transfer medium, and acquires reading results from the image readers. The controller is capable of performing failure/no-failure determination for the image on the transfer medium based on the reading results, of switching image reading by the multiple image readers between reading by a first number of image readers and reading by a second number of image readers, the second number being smaller than the first number, and of enabling, while the second number of image readers perform reading, at least one of the other image readers to execute a maintenance operation for the at least one of the other image readers.

A reading device includes: plural transport rolls that transport a document along a transport path, include a discharge roll disposed on a most downstream side of the transport path, and rotate and do not rotate in synchronization with one another; an opening and closing unit that exposes or covers an upstream portion of the transport path; plural detectors that are provided apart from one another along the transport path, detect a transported document, and include a discharge detector that is disposed on a most downstream side of the transport path and is disposed on an upstream side relative to the discharge roll in a document transport direction; a reader that reads an image formed on a transported document in a downstream portion of the transport path; and a controller that stops the plural transport rolls once upon occurrence of a document jam inside a device body by controlling the transport rolls and rotates the transport rolls for only a predetermined period in a case where the discharge detector is detecting no document and a length of a document is equal to or longer than a threshold length.

An information processing apparatus, an image forming apparatus, an information processing method, and a non-transitory recording medium. The information processing apparatus in response to completion of a specific software activation process in the controller, transmits an activation completion notification to the operation device and the operation device in response to receiving the activation completion notification, updates a timeout period of a timer started after activation of software of the operation device to a shorter period of time and restart the timer, and in a case data communication is not established on the communication path within the updated timeout period, detects a malfunction and notifies the controller of the malfunction, and the controller performs a recovery process.

An image reading apparatus includes a processor configured to: transmit, to an external apparatus, first image data including plural document images obtained by reading plural documents; receive, from the external apparatus, error information on a document image having an error in image processing performed by the external apparatus; and transmit, to the external apparatus, second image data including a document image obtained by performing an addressing process for the error information.

A firmware of the image forming device stores USB configuration information in a memory when updating the firmware in a normal operation. When updating of the firmware is not completed normally, the image forming device operates a recovery operation by executing a recovery program. The recovery program transmits USB configuration information, which is stored in the memory, to a terminal device when performing USB communication with the terminal device in the recovery operation. Thus, the USB configuration of the normal operation and that of the recovery operation are identical.

An image processing device capable of assigning a basic function and a server function to hardware resources and operating the basic function and the server function, includes: a hardware processor that: detects occurrence of a failure related to the basic function or transition to a power saving mode; releases a specific hardware resource corresponding to a function that has become inoperable due to the occurrence of a failure or the transition to a power saving mode, of the basic function assigned to the hardware resources, in a case where the occurrence of a failure or the transition to a power saving mode has been detected by the hardware processor; and additionally assigns the server function to the specific hardware resource released by the hardware processor, of the hardware resources, to operate the server function.

An image processing apparatus includes: an input part that acquires image data for an image forming part to perform image formation; an image reader disposed in a stage after a conveyance path for a paper sheet on which an image is formed by the image forming part; and an inspection processor that conducts inspection by comparing an image to be inspected with an image read by the image reader, wherein, after a defect is detected in the image read by the image reader, when a defect at the same portion is again detected from an image read by the image reader from a paper sheet subjected to recovery reprinting at the image forming part, the inspection processor performs image correction on a defect at the portion in image data for recovery re-reprinting in which the image forming part performs image formation.

An image processing system comprises: a reading unit configured to optically read a printed material, on which drawing information of an original image is multiplexed, to acquire read image data; an extraction unit configured to extract the drawing information from the read image data acquired by the reading unit; an acquisition unit configured to acquire original image data representing the original image based on the drawing information extracted by the extraction unit; a correction unit configured to compare the read image data with the original image data, and correct the original image data based on a result of the comparison; and a saving unit configured to save, as a result of reading the printed material, the corrected original image data corrected by the correction unit.
