An image reading apparatus for reading image information from a sheet includes a cover unit, a sheet feeding member, a conveying guide, and a reading unit including a transparent member and a reading portion. The cover unit is rotatable between a closed position where the cover unit forms a sheet conveying passage in cooperation with the conveying guide and an open position where the sheet conveying passage is open. In a state in which the cover unit is positioned in the closed position, the transparent member is exposed to an outside of the image reading apparatus by rotation of the conveying guide and the reading unit.

A medium feeder includes a feed roller that feeds a medium loaded on a medium loading section; a transport roller disposed downstream relative to the feed roller; a first driving source that drives at least the feed roller; a second driving source that drives at least the transport roller; and a housing that houses the feed roller, the transport roller, the first driving source, and the second driving source, wherein the housing includes a lower unit that constitutes a lower part of the housing, and an upper unit openable relative to the lower unit, and the first driving source and the second driving source are disposed on both sides relative to a center part of the lower unit in a width direction perpendicular to a medium transportation direction.

An image reading apparatus includes a feed roller configured to feed a document, a transport roller disposed downstream of the feed roller and configured to transport the document downstream; a transport motor being a drive source of the transport roller; a reading unit disposed downstream of the transport roller and configured to read the document; and a control unit configured to control the reading unit and the transport motor, wherein the control unit is configured to obtain information on a document type and an inclination detection reference value for an inclination of image data set in accordance with the document type and obtained from the reading unit, and when the inclination of the image data exceeds the inclination detection reference value in accordance with the document type, the control unit stops the transport motor.

An image reading apparatus includes first and second image reading units, and first and second transparent guides disposed along a conveyance path and guiding a document passing through a conveyance path. The first and second transparent guides are disposed to oppose to each other across the conveyance path. The image reading apparatus also includes a grounding portion provided on one of the first and second transparent guides and a conductive portion electrically connecting the first and second transparent guides with each other.

A conveying device conveys a sheet selectively along a first conveying path and a second conveying path which are connected at a junction into a common path portion. A reading unit reads an image of a sheet conveyed in the common path portion. A shutter is disposed in the second conveying path at a position upstream of the junction in a sheet conveying direction. The shutter is movable between a first position and a second position. The actuator is disposed in the common path portion and movable between a third position and a fourth position in response to the shutter moving between the first position and the second position, respectively. In a case where a detection sensor detects that the actuator is at the fourth position, a controller controls the conveying device to convey the sheet along the second conveying path.

An image reading apparatus includes an image reading unit, a mounting portion, and a cover member. The cover member includes a first restricting portion, a lock portion, and an operation portion. The operation portion operated from outside the main unit is displaceable in a direction in which the lock portion deforms from the locking shape into the releasing shape. The mounting portion includes a second restricting portion and a part. The second restricting portion restricts displacement of the operation portion in the cover member mounted on the mounting portion in the second orientation. The part has a second aperture opening into the lock portion in the cover member mounted on the mounting portion in the second orientation from outside the main unit. The second aperture is an opening for the insertion of a tool for deforming the lock portion from the locking shape into the releasing shape.

A medium-discharging device includes: a device main body including a medium-discharging section that discharges a medium; a medium-receiving tray that receives the medium discharged by the medium-discharging section; and a pressing member that is configured to be attached to and detached from to the device main body and presses the medium discharged by the medium-discharging section against the medium-receiving tray in a state in which the pressing member is attached to the device main body, in which the pressing member is configured to switch, in the state in which the pressing member is attached to the device main body, between a first state in which the pressing member comes into contact with the medium-receiving tray and a second state in which the pressing member retreats upward so as to be apart from the medium-receiving tray.

An image reading apparatus includes a first image reading unit, a second image reading unit provided on a side opposite from the first image reading unit with respect to a sheet feeding passage, a first guiding member, a second guiding member, a first unit holding the first image reading unit and the second guiding member, and a second unit holding the second image reading unit and the first guiding member. One of the first unit and the second unit is movable relative to the other unit so as to open the sheet feeding passage.

An image forming apparatus includes a printer unit configured to form a toner image on a recording material, the printer unit including a fixing portion configured to heat-fix the toner image on the recording material; a reader unit provided above the printer unit and configured to read an image of an original, the reader unit including an image sensor configured to optically read the original; wherein in a side of the reader unit opposed to the printer unit, there are provided a suction opening configured to suck air from a outside of the reader unit and a discharging opening configured to discharge the air to a outside of the reader unit, and wherein an air flow path connecting the suction opening and the discharging opening overlaps with a entirety of the image sensor in a main scan direction which is an axial direction of the image sensor.

An image reading apparatus includes a main body unit, a sheet conveyance unit configured to convey a sheet, a conveyance path, a first image reading portion provided on the main body unit, and configured to read an image on a first surface of the sheet at a first reading position, a second image reading portion provided on the sheet conveyance unit downstream of the first image reading portion in a sheet conveyance direction, and configured to read an image on a second surface opposite from the first surface of the sheet at a second reading position, and a conveyance path securing portion arranged between the first reading position and the second reading position in the sheet conveyance direction, and configured to secure the conveyance path between an upper surface of the main body unit and a lower surface of the sheet conveyance unit.
