A medium-feeding apparatus includes a movement detector configured to output information on movement of a medium in a first direction parallel to a feeding direction and in a second direction intersecting the feeding direction. A control unit is configured to perform abnormal feeding processing depending on the movement of the medium in the second direction. In the abnormal feeding processing, the control unit stops feeding of the medium when a first value indicating the movement of the medium in the first direction is within an allowable range and when a second value indicating the movement of the medium in the second direction exceeds a threshold, and continues feeding of the medium when the first value is outside the allowable range.
IMAGE READING APPARATUS
An image sensor reads an image from a document sheet at a reading position. Two document sheet sensors are capable of detecting the document sheet at two positions along boundaries of a reference pass-through area of the document sheet at a detection position more on an upstream side of a conveying direction than the reading position. Two sets of independent roller pairs are arranged with an interval provided therebetween in a width direction at positions between the detection position and the reading position, and rotation speeds thereof can be changed independently. A control portion changes, when the document sheet is detected by one of the two document sheet sensors, a speed ratio of the two sets of independent roller pairs from a reference ratio to a correction ratio during an adjustment period that lasts until the document sheet is no longer detected by both of the two document sheet sensors.
IMAGE READING APPARATUS
An image reading apparatus includes a medium mounting portion configured to mount a medium; a feeding means configured to feed a medium from the medium mounting portion; at least one edge guide each configured to regulate a corresponding one of at least one medium width direction edge of the medium having been mounted on the medium mounting portion; a reading means configured to read the medium and disposed on a further downstream side than the at least one edge guide in the medium feeding direction; and at least one medium detection means configured to detect the medium and disposed on a further downstream side than the at least one edge guide in the medium feeding direction and further outside in the medium width direction than at least one edge regulation position for the edge regulation by the at least one edge guide.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR METALLIC OBJECT DETECTION IN A MEDIA TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Systems and methods for detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system are disclosed. One or more induction sensors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the transported media, with detection signals sent from the sensors to a system processing unit. An ultrasonic detector is employed in some embodiments to output another detection signal. One or more microphones may also be included, for detecting the sound created as the medium is being transported. The system processing unit analyzes various detection signals and analyzes computed sound values from the microphones, to determine the presence and location of metal in the media. A position jam detector may assist in determining jams of the media along the medium transport path.
Removable duplexer tray module for an imaging apparatus
A removable media handling module includes a body that is horizontally slidable into and removable from an imaging apparatus. The media handling module includes a lower media guide extending between a front and a rear of the body in a direction of insertion of the body into the imaging apparatus. With the media handling module inserted into the imaging apparatus, the lower media guide is positioned parallel to and spaced from a corresponding upper media guide mounted in the imaging apparatus to form at least a portion of a duplex media path therebetween. The media handling module includes a media feed through channel extending from a bottom of the body to an entrance of a simplex media path to allow media to be fed from a media tray below the media handling module and into the simplex media path when the media handling module is installed in the imaging apparatus.
IMAGE SCANNING DEVICE, MULTIFUNCTION PERIPHERAL, IMAGE SCANNING METHOD, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER-READABLE MEDIUM
An image scanning device includes a placement-area image data capturing unit that captures placement-area image data corresponding to an area where documents are placed on a platen, a document image data capturing unit that captures pieces of document image data, each of which corresponds to one of the documents, and acquires positions of the pieces of document image data, in accordance with the placement-area image data captured by the placement-area image data capturing unit, a placement order acquiring unit that acquires an order in which the documents, each of which corresponds to one of the pieces of document image data, have been placed in accordance with at least the positions of the pieces of document image data, each of which corresponds to one of the documents, and a sequencing unit that assigns to the pieces of document image data the order acquired by the placement order acquiring unit.
MOVEMENT AMOUNT DETECTING DEVICE, IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS, AND MOVEMENT AMOUNT DETECTING METHOD
A movement amount detecting device performs discrete Fourier transform onto N-th image data and N+1-th image data, thereby generating N-th wave number space data and N+1 -th wave number space data. The movement amount detecting device obtains a target speed of a sheet, and determines a cutoff value based on the obtained target speed and an exposure time in an image sensor. The movement amount detecting device calculates an amount of movement of the sheet based on a phase difference between the N-th wave number space data and the N+1-th wave number space data in a wave number component smaller than the cutoff value.
Print precision improvement over long print jobs
A method and apparatus for printer compensation is disclosed. A label stop sensor (LSS) detects a time T(1) associated with an initial label position near the beginning of a print job. The label stop sensor detects a time T(L) associated with a label position that is L labels later in the print job. From at least the times T(1) and T(L) and a printer media feed rate a processor calculates a difference between the initial label position and the later label position. A start adjustment factor is compensated by the difference between the initial label position and the later label position to account for changes in print position between the first label and the later label.
System and method for metallic object detection in a media transport system
A system and method of detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system is disclosed. One or more metal detectors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the medium being transported. Signals from the metal detectors are sent to a system processor, which analyzes the signals, and produces proximity, duration, and/or intensity values therefrom. One or more microphones may also be included which detect the sound created as the medium is being transported. The processor computes sound values from the microphone signals, and analyzes the computed sound values along with the proximity, duration, and/or intensity values in order determine if the conveyance of the medium along the transport path should be stopped due to the presence of metal in the media or a jam occurring within the medium transport path.
