A printer for printing on a long sheet includes a print data divider and a verification processor. The print data divider outputs a plurality of segments of divided print data divided at the boundary of areas from standard print data containing print contents in each of the areas obtained by dividing a standard sheet into a plurality of the areas. The verification processor compares the size of the long sheet with the size of the area included in the standard sheet and rotates the divided print data if it is determined from a result of the comparison that the rotation is necessary.

An image reading apparatus including: a transport path along which a recording material is transported from an upstream location toward a downstream location; and an image reader that reads an image formed on a portion of the recording material in the transport path, the portion being positioned at a specific location on the transport path. A width of the transport path in a thickness direction of the recording material transported along the transport path at the specific location is less than an upstream width and/or less than a downstream width, the upstream width being a width of the transport path at a location upstream of the specific location, the downstream width being a width of the transport path at a location downstream of the specific location.

A recording apparatus includes a recording head, a loading unit, a feeding unit, a cover, a detection unit, and a determination unit. The feeding unit feeds a recording medium loaded on the loading unit to a recording position where the recording head performs the recording. The cover moves between an opening state and a closing state. The determination unit determines a size of the loaded recording medium based on a result of a width detection operation. The recording head records an image per a determination result. If the cover closing is detected before the recording is performed, the determination unit performs the width detection operation to determine the recording medium size loaded on the loading unit. If the cover opening is detected and the recording apparatus receives a recording instruction, the determination unit performs the width detection operation to determine the recording medium size loaded on the loading unit.

An image reading apparatus including: an angle detector configured to detect a first state in which a pressure plate is at a first angle with respect to a transparent member and a second state in which the pressure plate is at a second angle smaller than the first angle; a size determiner configured to determine a size of the original in a main scanning direction based on a reading result of a reader; and a controller configured to switch a first size determination mode in which a light source is turned on when a waiting state in which an angle of the pressure plate is larger than the first angle is changed to the first state, and a second size determination mode in which the light source is tuned on when the first state is changed to the second state.

A recording apparatus includes a reading unit reading a medium transported through a medium transportation path and a pair of frames supporting the reading unit. The pair of frames includes a first frame and a second frame that is disposed with an interval provided between the first frame and the second frame in the width direction, at least one of the first frame and the second frame is provided with an opening portion penetrable by the reading unit, and the first frame and the second frame support the reading unit penetrating, via the opening portion, the first frame and the second frame while being disposed between the first frame and the second frame.

An image reading apparatus includes a stacking tray, a feeding roller, a restricting member configured to move to a restricting position and a retracted position, a reading sensor, a reversing roller configured to perform a reversing operation, a first conveyance path, a second conveyance, and a controller. The controller is configured to permit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of a double-sided reading job on a sheet having a first size, and prohibit the reversing operation if the controller receives an execution instruction of the double-sided reading job on a sheet having a second size smaller than the first size.

An image reading apparatus includes: a document size detector that detects either a length or a width of a fed document before reading, and associates the document with a standard size equal to or approximate thereto; an image reading device that reads a document and surroundings thereof at a reading position; a background color plate to be read as an image of the surroundings; a document area determiner that determines a document area; and a blank page determiner that determines a blank page determination area for determining whether a document is a blank page or not. A reading portion generates an original image including an image of a document sheet. A first document sheet end detection portion, in a case where the thickness of the document sheet is equal to or greater than a threshold value, identifies a peripheral edge shape of the document sheet by detecting a shadow portion that occurs at a peripheral edge portion of the document sheet in the original image. A second document end detection portion, in a case where the thickness of the document sheet is less than a threshold value, identifies the peripheral edge shape based on a specification by the user. A document sheet size determination portion determines a size of the document sheet according to a result of shape identification by the first document sheet end detection portion or a result of shape identification by the second document sheet end detection portion.

In a case where a skew of a document being conveyed is detected by a detection unit, an image reading apparatus notifies that documents having different sheet widths may be included in documents stacked on a stacking unit.

According to an automatic document feeder of a multifunction peripheral according to the present invention, two tilt sensors are provided in the middle of a document conveyance path to detect a tilt degree of a document being conveyed along the document conveyance path. Here, for example, if the positional deviation representing the tilt degree of the document is greater than a predetermined threshold value ΔLs, the conveyance of the document is stopped. On the other hand, if this is not the case, the conveyance of the document is continued. In addition, the threshold value is set in accordance with the width dimension of the document, and in particular, the larger the width dimension, the smaller the threshold value.
