The supporting mechanism is configured to be provided in the sheet feeding tray, to support the document pressing member, to allow a shifting of the document pressing member according to an operation for shifting the document pressing member in a discharge direction of the document or an opposite direction to the discharge direction and to inhibit the shifting of the document pressing member against a force applied to the document pressing member by the discharged document.

An image reading apparatus includes: a document size detector that detects either a length or a width of a fed document before reading, and associates the document with a standard size equal to or approximate thereto; an image reading device that reads a document and surroundings thereof at a reading position; a background color plate to be read as an image of the surroundings; a document area determiner that determines a document area; and a blank page determiner that determines a blank page determination area for determining whether a document is a blank page or not. When either of the detected length or width is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold value, the blank page determiner determines the blank page determination area, based on the associated standard size, and otherwise determines the blank page determination area, based on the document area.
IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
A reading portion generates an original image including an image of a document sheet. A first document sheet end detection portion, in a case where the thickness of the document sheet is equal to or greater than a threshold value, identifies a peripheral edge shape of the document sheet by detecting a shadow portion that occurs at a peripheral edge portion of the document sheet in the original image. A second document end detection portion, in a case where the thickness of the document sheet is less than a threshold value, identifies the peripheral edge shape based on a specification by the user. A document sheet size determination portion determines a size of the document sheet according to a result of shape identification by the first document sheet end detection portion or a result of shape identification by the second document sheet end detection portion.
Image reading device
A document sheet length detection portion detects document sheets placed on a tray while distinguishing between a first size document sheet whose length in a conveyance direction is equal to or longer than a reference length, and a second size document sheet whose length in the conveyance direction is shorter than the reference length. A selection portion selects, as a specified conveyance process, one of a first conveyance process and a second conveyance process. A control portion, after a predetermined start event occurs, causes a conveyance device to execute the second conveyance process when the second conveyance process has been selected as the specified conveyance process and the document sheet length detection portion has detected the first size document sheet, and causes the conveyance device to execute the first conveyance process when a number of document sheets conveyed during the second conveyance process has reached an upper-limit number.

An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member on which an original is placed, a reading unit configured to read the original placed on the transparent member while moving in a first direction, and at least one processor configured to detect at least one edge of the original based on a reading result by the reading unit, wherein the at least one processor is configured to determine a candidate of a size of the original placed on the transparent member based on an edge, among the at least one detected edge, in the second direction orthogonal to the first direction, wherein the reading unit is configured to move in the first direction by a predetermined distance based on the candidate of the determined size.

A printing apparatus includes: a conveyor; an image recording device configured to record an image on a printing medium conveyed in a conveyance direction by the conveyor; a divider provided downstream of the image recording device in the conveyance direction and configured to divide the printing medium; a detector provided upstream of the divider in the conveyance direction and configured to detect a trailing end portion of the printing medium; and a controller causing the printing apparatus to: calculate a dividing position of the printing medium based on a length of the printing medium that is grasped by detecting the trailing end portion by the detector; convey the printing medium in a reverse direction by the conveyor to move the dividing position to a position of the divider; and divide the printing medium at the dividing position by the divider.

An automatic document feeder includes a document loading detector, a document feeder, a document guide, a guide width measurer, a document width acquirer, a guide shift determiner, a document skew detector, a skew determiner, a warning display information generator, and a display. When a detected skew of a document is determined to be unallowable, the document feeder stops a feeding of the document. The warning display information generator generates a warning content about a feed trouble that stopped the feeding of the document, and the generated warning content about the feed trouble is displayed on the display.
