Document size sensing module
A document size sensing module adapted to a MFP having a transparent platform where a document is adapted to be placed is provided and includes a moving component movably disposed below the transparent platform along a first axial direction, a first sensor, a second sensor, and a control unit electrically connected to the moving component, the first sensor, and the second sensor. The first and second sensors are disposed on the moving component and arranged along a second axial direction. When the control unit drives the moving component to move along the first axial direction, and at least one of the first sensor and the second sensor senses the document, the control unit determines a length of the document according to a distance travelled by the moving component and a width of the document by the first sensor and the second sensor, so as to determine dimensions of the document.

An image reading device includes a document tray, a linear conveyance path, a curved conveyance path, a document conveyance device, a scanning device, a length detecting device, an operation device, and a controller. A plurality of conveyance rollers are disposed at a predetermined first interval in the linear conveyance path. In the curved conveyance path, a plurality of conveyance rollers are disposed at a predetermined second interval longer than the first interval. When accepting through the operation device an instruction for conveying an original document through the curved conveyance path, the controller allows conveyance of the original document through the curved conveyance path when a length of the original document detected by the length detecting device is not shorter than the second interval or disallows conveyance of the original document through the curved conveyance path when the detected length of the original document is shorter than the second interval.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for processing a digital image of a document, for example, to determine whether the document is a long document. An exemplary method generally includes obtaining a plurality of digital images of the document, determining a type of the document, loading one or more pre-defined metrics associated with the document based on the determined type of the document, determining one or more characteristics of the document based on one or more analyses performed on the plurality of digital images of the document, comparing the one or more characteristics of the document with the one or more pre-defined metrics, and determining the document to be a long document based, at least in part, on the comparison.
