An image reading apparatus 300 comprises: the scanner device SD which reads information about a sheet P conveyed on a paper conveying route PP and information about a position, a form and a color of an image formed on the sheet P; a spectrophotometer CI which reads information about a color of an image formed on a sheet P conveyed on the paper conveying route PP; and a support base TR which incorporates the paper conveying route and a motor for conveying a sheet and can be pulled out from a main body together with the paper conveying route and the motor. The scanner device SD is not mounted on the support base TR but fixed to the main body of the image reading apparatus. The spectrophotometer CI is mounted on and fixed to the support base TR, and spaced from the paper transfer route PP by a predetermined distance.

A carrier sheet detecting unit is located upstream a reading unit in a transport direction in which transport is performed, and can detect a carrier sheet transported. Then, a control unit can determine that the carrier sheet is transported based on a detection result of the carrier sheet detecting unit. Additionally, the reading unit can read an original document sandwiched by the carrier sheet transported, the control unit can determine that the carrier sheet is transported based on a reading result of the reading unit. Then, the control unit switches between adopting the detection result of the carrier sheet detecting unit and adopting the reading result of the reading unit, and determines that the carrier sheet is transported.

A reading device includes a reading unit configured to read a document, and a control unit configured to acquire image data including a document region and a background region from the reading unit. The control unit acquires document information about a document, and sets, based on the document information, a background range indicating a range of a luminance value regarded as the background region.

An image reading system includes an image reading apparatus including a transport unit configured to transport a document from a bundle of cut documents one by one, a reading unit configured to read an image of the transported document, and a reading control unit, and an external control unit included in an external device coupled to the image reading apparatus, wherein an inclination correction process that corrects an inclination of the image of the document, a size determination process that determines a size of the image as a standard for the bundle of documents, and a size correction process that corrects the size of the image of the document to a specific size determined by the size determination process are performed.

According to the present disclosure, edges of a document image contained in a read image read by an image-reading apparatus including a paper path are detected, a candidate edge-skew occurrence position is detected, a candidate content-skew occurrence position is detected, an accumulated-skew occurrence position is detected based on the candidate edge-skew occurrence position and the candidate content-skew occurrence position, skew of a document rear-part image rearward from the accumulated-skew occurrence position in the conveyance direction is corrected, and image data corrected for accumulated skew is acquired.

An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member having a placement surface on which a document is to be placed, a reading unit configured to read an image of the document placed on the transparent member via the transparent member, and a reading mode in which an image of a document, placed in a holding member with a transparent portion, is read. The document to be read is placed in the holding member so as to be visible via the transparent portion and the holding member is placed on the placement surface with the transparent portion of the holding member in contact with the placement surface. A processor detects an edge in an image acquired by the reading unit in the reading mode, and to extract an image surrounded by an edge detected in an area surrounded by an edge corresponding to the holding member in the reading mode.

An image processing system includes an information processing apparatus and an image processing apparatus. The image processing apparatus generates a plurality of pieces of image data by scanning a plurality of documents, associates, with image data generated by scanning a handwritten document out of the plurality of pieces of image data, information indicating that the image data is image data generated by scanning a handwritten document, and transmits, to the information processing apparatus, the plurality of pieces of image data and the information. The information processing apparatus receives the information and the plurality of pieces of image data; and executes character recognition processing on first image data with which the information is not associated, and obtains character information based on the first image data, wherein character information based on second image data with which the information is associated is obtained by executing processing different from the character recognition processing.

According to detection results of a plurality of original document detectors, an image reading apparatus determines whether or not correcting skew of an original document is possible, controls a pair of a plurality of transport rollers in a case where it is determined that correcting the skew of the original document is possible, and corrects the skew of the original document by making transporting speeds of the pair of the plurality of transport rollers different from each other.

The scanner section reads the light reflected from an original document after the light penetrates a light diffusion sheet to output first image data, wherein the light diffusion sheet has a surface for diffusing the light reflected from the original document including a mirror reflection area; and the area determination section determines the mirror reflection area with respect to the first image data output from the scanner section.
