A document and an identification medium are placed on the placement section. The reader reads the document and the identification medium and generates image data. The authentication control section performs authentication of a user based on image data of the identification medium and generates authentication information that indicates a result of authentication of the user. The reading control section controls the reader. The reading control section controls the reader to read the document after generating the image data of the identification medium. The authentication control section starts authentication of the user after the image data of the identification medium is generated.

Provided is an image reading system that divides, with respect to image data obtained by performing a double sided reading in a state where a booklet is opened, cover sheet image data into two parts corresponding to a pair of cover sheets to arrange the two parts at a front and an end, respectively, and arranges main text image data between the front and the end, and then generates an image file from each of the arranged image data.

An image forming apparatus includes an image formation unit, a detection unit, a storage unit, and a control unit. When the detection unit outputs a second output value when a second recording material, which is different from a first recording material is detected, in a state where the storage unit stores a first output value output by the detection unit upon detection of the first recording material, the control unit controls an image forming condition based on at least the first output value if a differential value between the first output value and the second output value is smaller than a predetermined threshold value and controls the image forming condition based on the second output value without using the first output value if the differential value is greater than the predetermined threshold value.

An image reading apparatus reads an image on a document surface. The image reading apparatus includes a document-supporting unit, a light source, and an image reading unit. The document-supporting unit supports the document and transmits light. The light source, from a direction inclined with respect to a line perpendicular to the document surface, irradiates the document surface with an irradiation beam transmitted through the document-supporting unit. The image reading unit reads the image in accordance with light reflected from the document surface and thereby generates image data. The document-supporting unit enables varying degree that the irradiation beam scatters in passing through the document-supporting unit.

An image reading device and an image forming apparatus. The image reading device includes an image reader to read an image of a document, and a color reference component arranged to face the image reader. In the image reading device, the image reader reads the color reference component at a prescribed timing to obtain color reference image data, and correction data generating processes are executed based on the obtained color reference image data to generate correction data used to correct data of the image read by the image reader. In the image reading device, wherein the color reference component is moved relative to the image reader in a direction orthogonal to a direction toward and away from the image reader. According to an embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a sheet conveyance unit that is configured to transport a print medium along a conveyance path. An antenna is configured to emit radio waves towards a predetermined portion of the conveyance path. A controller is configured to control the antenna to emit the radio waves towards the predetermined portion with a polarization direction set according to a type of the print medium being transported by the sheet conveyance unit. The print medium may have, for example, one or more wireless tags thereon or therein.

An image processing apparatus according to an embodiment by the present disclosure includes a storage unit for storing a reading size, an identifying unit for identifying the reading size using a sensor, a reading unit for reading an image of a document, and a setting unit for setting the identifying unit to identify the reading size. In case of the identifying unit identifying the size of the document in a state where the setting unit sets the identifying unit to identify the reading size, the reading unit reads the image of the document based on the size identified by the identifying unit. In case of the identifying unit not identifying the size of the document in the state where the setting unit sets the identifying unit to identify the reading size, the reading unit reads the image of the document based on the size stored in the storage unit.
