A system for collection and distribution of curated tagged content includes a server or collection of servers in communication with one or more networks. The servers receive moment files generated by recording users via recording devices; each moment file is associated with a tagged object (e.g., physical or virtual) and includes associated media content. Each moment file is associated with recorder-side filtering via which a potential reader may be defined as an eligible or ineligible reader of the moment file. The server stores the received moment files to memory and receives indications of reading devices near an associated tagged object. The server receives indications of reading devices near a tagged object associated with a moment file; for those reading users determined eligible to read a moment file, the server forwards to their associated reading devices associated media content for display in response to engagement by the reading user.

Enhanced image capture

Disclosed are techniques that provide a best picture taken within a few seconds of the moment when a capture command is received (e.g., when the shutter button is pressed). In some situations, several still images are automatically (that is, without the user's input) captured. These images are compared to find a best image that is presented to the photographer for consideration. Video is also captured automatically and analyzed to see if there is an action scene or other motion content around the time of the capture command. If the analysis reveals anything interesting, then the video clip is presented to the photographer. The video clip may be cropped to match the still-capture scene and to remove transitory parts. Higher-precision horizon detection may be provided based on motion analysis and on pixel-data analysis.

The controller sets the set value to a corresponding value relating to the video capturing in each of a first and a second video mode, and automatically sets the set value in the second video mode to a value more suitable for recording a still image so that image quality of a still image in the second video mode is greater than image quality of a still image in the first video mode. The video in the second video mode is captured from start to end of a video recording.
