The print engine is configured to physically print an image to be printed on a print sheet. The sheet transportation unit is configured to transport the print sheet along a predetermined transportation path. The optical sensor is arranged so as to face the transportation path, and configured to detect a color of a test chart on a colored print sheet transported along the transportation path. The image processing unit is configured to perform color correction of the image to be printed on the colored print sheet, on the basis of the detected color of the test chart on the colored print sheet so as to restrain color change of the image due to a surface color of the colored print sheet.

In one example in accordance with the present disclosure, a printing device is described. The printing device includes a print controller with a processor and memory. The print controller generates print instructions. Specifically, the print controller receives print image data representing an image to be printed and identifies enclosed regions in a background print agent plane. The print controller also determines a size of the enclosed regions of background print agent plane and responsive to the size of an enclosed region being smaller than a threshold size, removes the enclosed region from the background print agent plane. The printing device also includes a print agent distribution system to apply the background print agent and the image print agent to a substrate according to the print instructions.

A color image forming apparatus includes a controller implemented using one or more hardware processors, wherein the controller: detects a line area; detects a background area adjacent to the line area; detects first one or more ink colors of first one or more inks to be used in the line area; detects second one or more ink colors of second one or more inks to be used in the background area; compares the first one or more ink colors and the second one or more ink colors to identify a combination pattern of the first one or more ink colors and the second one or more ink colors; and determines whether to correct amounts of the first one or more inks and amounts of the second one or more inks, based on the identified combination pattern.
