A video recording apparatus that is capable of reducing generation of error in a time code due to an auto-power-off function. A setting unit sets a count method by which a time code given to a video image is counted by selecting from among a plurality of count methods including a free run mode in which the time code is counted regardless of whether a video image is recording. A control unit controls so as to perform auto power off to turn off power when a predetermined condition, which includes a condition where there is no user's operation within a predetermined period, is satisfied in a mode other than the free run mode. The control unit controls so as not to turn off the power even when the predetermined condition is satisfied in the free run mode.

System and method for automatically creating a media archive from content on a recording medium

A media player may include a media reader to read media content from a recording medium inserted into the media reader. The media player may also include a media analysis component to identify one or more valid portions of the recording medium containing media content and one or more invalid portions of the recording medium without media content. In one embodiment, the media player includes an archival component to store the media content from the one or more valid portions in a storage medium and a playback component to play back the one or more valid portions of the media content from the storage medium concurrently with the identification of the one or more valid portions by the media analysis component and the storage of the media content by the archival component.

Transferring multiple records including video data to/from host

In one embodiment, a magnetic tape device includes a read control configured to sequentially read records included in data sets from a tape medium into a buffer, and send the records included in the data sets to a host in response to determining that there is no C2 error during reading of the data sets. The read control is also configured to skip a predetermined error recovery process in accordance with a video special mode in response to detecting a C2 error during reading of the data sets.

Video capture and testing of media player playback of a video

In one embodiment, a capture video is received that is captured during the playback of a trace video on a media player on a hardware platform. The capture video may be an external capture of a display of the trace video on the media player. To allow the external capture to be analyzed, the trace video may include visible codes on frames of the trace video that can be captured by a capture device. Particular embodiments analyze the frames of the capture video to extract identifiers associated with the visual codes on the frames. Events that occurred during playback are determined by analyzing a sequence of identifiers from the capture video to an expected sequence of identifiers from the trace video. Then, particular embodiments determine whether an API call from the media player was received that corresponds to the event while the media player was playing the trace video.

Adaptive media content recording

A media content processing system includes a receiver configured to receive a media content signal, associated with a media content instance, from a plurality of sources including a first source and a second source. The media content processing system further includes a processing device programmed to generate a first recorded segment that includes a portion of the media content instance received from the first source, determine a signal strength of the media content signal received from the first source, compare the signal strength to a predetermined level, request the media content signal from the second source if the signal strength is below the predetermined level, generate a second recorded segment that includes a portion of the media content instance received from the second source, and concatenate the second recorded segment to the first recorded segment.

Method and apparatus for detecting quality defects in a video bitstream

There is provided an apparatus for detecting a quality defect in a video sequence, the apparatus comprising: a receiver arranged to receive a video bitstream representing a video sequence; and a defect module arranged to determine a measure of quantization parameter for each picture of the video sequence, the defect module further arranged to identify a quality defect when an abrupt change in the measure of quantization parameter occurs.

Method and system for fail-safe program recording in personal video recorders

A method, system, and non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for implementing backup recording of events are disclosed. The method may include detecting, by a personal video recorder (PVR) cluster coordinator, an interruption in a current or scheduled recording of an event at a first PVR. The method may further include determining, by the PVR cluster coordinator, a PVR cluster corresponding to the first PVR in response to the detection, the PVR cluster comprising a plurality of PVRs and including the first PVR. The method may further include facilitating, by the PVR cluster coordinator, a backup recording of the interrupted recording at a serving PVR in the PVR cluster after determining the PVR cluster corresponding to the first PVR. Further, the PVR cluster coordinator may be implemented by at least one computer processor.

Method and apparatus for adapting audio delays to picture frame rates

To synchronize sound information with corresponding picture information for digital cinema compositions at different frame rates in a play list during play out of the digital cinema compositions, associated audio latency settings are first established for the corresponding picture information of the digital cinema compositions in the play list in accordance with the digital cinema composition frame rates. The timing between the sound information and the picture information is then adjusted during play out of the digital cinema compositions in accordance with the associated audio latency settings for the corresponding digital cinema composition frame rates.

Method for determining bit rate and apparatus therefor

The present invention relates to a method for controlling a bit rate and an apparatus therefor, and more specifically to an apparatus for storing a bit rate changed according to a significant level in a memory and a method for determining the bit rate, which meets the requirements for the distortion according to the memory space limitation and the significant level of the image information so as to minimize the energy consumption.
