COLOUR IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE, AND COLOUR IMAGE DISPLAY METHOD
20170351144 · 2017-12-07 · ·

A field-sequential color image display device is provided which can sufficiently reduce power consumption while suppressing color breakup. In a liquid crystal display device that displays a color image under a field sequential system in which each frame period includes four field periods corresponding to three primary colors, namely red, green, and blue, and a white color, the emission intensity of a light source section (120) during the white field period is determined in advance so that the white color is displayed at a target maximum luminance when the transmittance of a pixel array section (110) is at its maximum during all of the four field periods. A drive control section (200) separates an input image signal into white, blue, green, and red components, expands the white component, and then assigns the components to the four field periods. This causes the pixel array section (110) to, during the respective field periods, display images of the corresponding colors based on the signal components thus assigned, giving a color image by an additive color mixture over time.

The present disclosure provides a projection image correcting method and a projection apparatus. The method includes: receiving real-time brightness values of M sub-images in a current to-be-displayed image, the real-time brightness values being acquired by a plurality of sensors arranged on a reflector which is located opposite to a projection lens, and obtaining a brightness adjusting value of a j-th sub-image in the current to-be-displayed image according to the real-time brightness values of the M sub-images. Adjustment is made, in combination with brightness adjusting values obtained from the current image to be displayed, to brightness values of each sub-image in an image to be displayed after the current to-be-displayed image, thereby making brightness of displayed images uniform, and improving the projection image quality.

PROJECTION SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Image display apparatus and methods may use a single imaging element such as a digital mirror device (DMD) to spatially modulate plural color channels. A color channel may include a light steering element such as a phase modulator. Steered light from a light steering element may be combined with or replaced by additional light to better display bright images. These technologies may be provided together or applied individually.
