Folded parallel-light-channel based stereo imaging system with disparity and convergence angle control
11297297 · 2022-04-05 · ·

A stereo imaging system having convergence angle and disparity control includes a pair of pivoting folded-parallel-light-channel (FPLC) units arranged to provide a virtual left side view and a virtual right side view of a scene. Each FPLC unit includes a fixed lens unit adapted to focus reflected light including an image of a scene to an image sensor and a laterally translatable light-redirecting unit including a reflector adapted to define a parallel image reflection path to the fixed lens unit via a collimated light beam defined by substantially parallel light beams. The stereo imaging system further includes a disparity-adjusting mechanism adapted to alter a distance between the pair of pivoting FPLC units and a convergence-angle-adjusting mechanism adapted to pivot the pivoting FPLC units.

There are several types of plenoptic devices and camera arrays available on the market, and all these light field acquisition devices have their proprietary file format. However, there is no standard supporting the acquisition and transmission of multi-dimensional information. It is interesting to obtain information related to a correspondence between pixels of a sensor of said optical acquisition system and an object space of said optical acquisition system. Indeed, knowing which portion of the object space of an optical acquisition system a pixel belonging to the sensor of said optical acquisition system is sensing enables the improvement of signal processing operations. The notion of pixel beam, which represents a volume occupied by a set of rays of light in an object space of an optical system of a camera along with a compact format for storing such information is thus introduce.

Image sensor

An image sensor includes a substrate, a first thin lens configured to concentrate light of a first wavelength, and including a plurality of first scatterers disposed on the substrate. The plurality of first scatterers includes a material having a refractive index greater than a refractive index of the substrate. The image sensor further includes a plurality of light-sensing cells configured to sense the light concentrated by the first thin lens.

Mobile device having a 3D display with selectable magnification

A mobile device has at least two camera lenses for taking a first image and a second image for forming a 3D image and a processor for composing a composite image from first image strips compressed from the first image and second image strips compressed from the second image in an interlaced manner. The composite image is conveyed to a display panel so that a viewer can see a 3D image through a parallax sheet with parallax separating units. The 3D image can be displayed with different magnification factors. When four lenses are used for taking a first pair of images and a second pair of images, the first pair is used for composing the composite image and the 3D image is viewed through a lenslet sheet.

SINGLE SENSOR IMAGER

A three dimensional imager which may be used in surgery comprises a single image sensor. First and second lens assemblies are distal to the sensor, and first and second optical wedges are positioned to angle an image their respective lens assembly onto the image sensor. Shutters or polarizers are disposed between each optical wedge and its corresponding lens assembly.
