Coding and decoding of interleaved image data
Sampled data is packaged in checkerboard format for encoding and decoding. The sampled data may be quincunx sampled multi-image video data (e.g., 3D video or a multi-program stream), and the data may also be divided into sub-images of each image which are then multiplexed, or interleaved, in frames of a video stream to be encoded and then decoded using a standardized video encoder. A system for viewing may utilize a standard video decoder and a formatting device that de-interleaves the decoded sub-images of each frame reformats the images for a display device. A 3D video may be encoded using a most advantageous interleaving format such that a preferred quality and compression ratio is reached. In one embodiment, the invention includes a display device that accepts data in multiple formats.
ENCODER, DECODER, ENCODING METHOD, AND DECODING METHOD
An encoder includes circuitry and memory coupled to the circuitry. In operation, the circuitry determines whether or not a current video to be processed is a progressive video. When it is determined that the current video is a progressive video, the encoder encodes, into a bitstream, one syntax element indicating a chroma location type which is information indicating locations of chroma samples relative to luma samples for a frame included in the current video. When it is determined that the current video is not a progressive video, the encoder encodes two syntax elements into the bitstream, each of which indicates the chroma location type for a different one of fields of two types included in the current video.
PICTURE ORIENTATION AND QUALITY METRICS SUPPLEMENTAL ENHANCEMENT INFORMATION MESSAGE FOR VIDEO CODING
Video encoders and video decoders are configured to supplemental enhancement information (SEI) messages. The SEI messages may include picture orientation transform type syntax elements that indicate how a picture may be rotated and/or mirrored. The SEI messages may also include quality metrics.

Disclosed are an intra prediction method of a chrominance block using a luminance sample and an apparatus using the same. An image decoding method comprises the steps of: calculating an intra prediction mode of a chrominance block on the basis of an LM mapping table when the chrominance block uses an LM; and generating a prediction block for the chrominance block on the basis of the calculated intra prediction mode of the chrominance block. When intra prediction mode information of chrominance blocks are decoded, mutually different tables are used depending on whether or not an LM is used, so that encoding and decoding can be performed without an unnecessary waste of bits.
Intra prediction method of chrominance block using luminance sample, and apparatus using same
Disclosed are an intra prediction method of a chrominance block using a luminance sample and an apparatus using the same. An image decoding method of decoding, on a block-by-block basis, image data included in a coded stream includes: deriving candidates for an intra prediction mode to be used for intra prediction for a decoding target block, the number of the candidates constantly being a plural number; obtaining, from the coded stream, an index for identifying one of the derived candidates for the intra prediction mode; and determining, based on the obtained index, one of the derived candidates for the intra prediction mode as the intra prediction mode to be used for intra prediction for the decoding target block.
