Method and server for audio and/or video content delivery
For delivering an audio and/or video content using adaptive streaming from a cache server to a client device, the audio and/or video content being segmented into data segments available in various representations with respective audio and/or video qualities, the representations being time-aligned per segment, the segments being further divided into chunks, a method includes: obtaining a round-trip time value applicable between the cache server and the client device; computing a minimum bulk transfer size from the maximum average bitrate of the various representations of the audio and/or video content and from the obtained round-trip time value; computing a minimum bulk duration, with respect to the audio and/or video content, for the representation to be delivered to the client device; and delivering the audio and/or video content by burst transfers in the form of bulks of aggregated successive chunks for each segment in accordance with the computed minimum bulk duration.

System and method for generating dynamic media
The present invention provides a method for generating customized dynamic video, said method comprising the steps of: partitioning customized dynamic video's timeline, using a predefined partition scheme, into a series of chunk descriptors, each defined by an interval of the timeline and corresponding to a video chunk of the customized dynamic video; for each chunk descriptor, constructing an identifier based on a set of parameters that represent visual characteristics of the video chunk, and associating said identifier to the chunk descriptor; for each chunk descriptor, querying a cache of previously rendered and encoded video chunks for a video chunk indexed by the identifier matching that of the chunk descriptor; in the case that a video chunk whose identifier matches the queried identifier is found, retrieving said video chunk from the cache; otherwise, rendering and encoding the video chunk, for the chunk descriptor's timeline interval, and saving said video chunk in the cache, indexed by the identifier.
DISTRIBUTED MULTI-DATACENTER VIDEO PACKAGING SYSTEM
A content streaming system and methodology for facilitating the management of content streaming. A video packaging and origination service requests streaming content that is organized according to content segments. Individual content segments will be encoded according to a plurality of encoding profiles and generated by different encoders. The video packaging and origination service utilizes synchronization information provided to the encoders to select individual encoded content segments responsive to the request for streaming content.

Cache eviction during off-peak transactions
Transaction activity of a cache maintaining content may be monitored to determine periods of transaction activity below a first threshold amount of transactions. A period of anticipated transaction activity above a second threshold amount of transactions may be determined. A period of anticipated transaction activity below the first threshold may be selected based upon the monitored periods of transaction activity below the first threshold and the determined period of anticipated transaction activity above the second threshold. Content then may be evicted from the cache during the selected period of anticipated transaction activity.

Scalable coding based video distribution
Media content coded using scalable coding techniques may be cached among a group of cache devices. Layered segments of the media content may be pre-loaded onto the cache devices, which may be located throughout a content distribution network, including a home network. The caching location of the media content may be determined based on multiple factors including a content preference associated with the group of cache devices and device capabilities. A cache controller may manage the caching of the media content.

Image providing service
The described technology is directed towards an image providing service, including an image processing service that composites a base image into a resultant image, e.g., by resizing an image, overlaying text and so forth based upon a purpose for that image and/or a client device class; other parameters such as design information, protection and so forth also may be specified. When a client requests an image including by specifying a purpose and size in a request to an endpoint (e.g., URL) for an image, the image processing service locates or composites a resultant image corresponding to the request, and returns the resultant image or a modified (e.g., resized) resultant image in response to the request. Clients thus obtain images based upon a desired purpose without having to do client-side image processing including image compositing.
