Described herein is an espresso coffee machine having a water feeding hydraulic circuit, at least one boiler for heating water, located downstream of the water feeding hydraulic circuit, a coffee dispenser unit, located downstream of the boiler and provided with at least one coffee panel configured for mixing hot water with coffee, and a first pumping hydraulic circuit, provided with at least one pump for the water and interposed between the water feeding hydraulic circuit and the boiler. Between the water feeding hydraulic circuit and the boiler is interposed a second pumping hydraulic circuit, connected in parallel with the first pumping hydraulic circuit and provided with a lever pumping unit. The lever pumping unit works at room temperature, being physically separated both from the boiler, and from the coffee dispenser unit.

A filtering receptacle (1) for a solid flavour base is dimensioned to fit inside a pot (23) of a French press (24). The filtering receptacle (1) has a circumferential central wall part (3) that extends upwards from a bottom wall part (4) and terminates in a free edge (5) of a circumferential upper wall part (2) opposite the bottom wall part (4), which free edge (5) delimits an opening (6) for adding the solid flavour base to the filtering receptacle (1). The circumferential upper wall part (2) has a plurality of through-going drain passages (7), said through-going drain passages (7) are distributed spaced apart along the circumferential upper wall part (2) and are retracted from the free edge (5), at least some of the through-going drain passages (7) of the circumferential upper wall part (2) extend into an associated channel (8) formed in the exterior face (9) of at least the circumferential central wall part (3), wherein a channel (8) extend from its through-going drain passage (7) down towards the bottom wall part (4) along the majority of the circumferential central wall part (3). The filtering receptacle keeps hold of spend flavour base to that said flavour base can be easily discarded separate.

A coffee brewing apparatus comprising a canister for holding coffee grounds and hot water in which the coffee brews. The canister has a closable opening through which the coffee grounds and hot water are poured. A filter covers an opening at the bottom of the canister through which brewed coffee flows out of the canister. A hand pump is coupled to an opening in the canister, operable to increase air pressure inside the canister. The canister inhibits the leakage of air or liquid while the coffee is brewing. The hand pump is used to increase air pressure inside the canister to a high pressure sufficient to push the brewed coffee through the filter and out of the canister.

A brewing unit (100) for a beverage producing device (900) is disclosed. The brewing unit (100) includes a main body (102) defining a cavity (200) for receiving multiple types/formats of capsules (120). Further, one or more piercing members (106) are also included in the brewing unit (100). Furthermore, the one or more piercing members (106) are actuated by an actuator (108) to pierce or not to pierce the capsule (120) when the brewing unit (100) is in at least one of corresponding piercing mode/non-piercing mode.

A French press is provided. The French press has a rotating lid having alternative pour options. Replaceable filters on the lid further allow a user to select the desired filter for use. A movable reservoir located within a housing of the French press traps most, if not all, of the coffee grounds from the interior of the French press. A valve plate stops the brewing process. The device may have two filters which are secured by a spring plate on top, and a cross plate below to form a filter assembly, which separates the coffee grounds from the brew. A plunger holds the filter assembly so that when pressed down, filtered coffee is separated from grounds, with the filter assembly acting as a barrier.

The agitation is through manual manipulation of a paddle adjacent the mesh filter assembly. A method of brewing coffee or tea is disclosed using the system.
