Methods and apparatus for using location information to manage spillover in an audience monitoring system

Methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture for using location information to manage spillover in an audience monitoring system are disclosed. An example method involves identifying a first location of a portable metering device at a first time based on a plurality of location coordinates received from a location information system. The example method also involves generating media monitoring information corresponding to a media signal received at the first time. Additionally, the example method involves identifying the media monitoring information as being associated with a spillover signal in response to determining that a media delivery device is not located at the first location of the portable metering device at the first time.

Smart channel device

According to one embodiment, a channel device includes a memory, an interface, and a processor. The memory stores a watch list. The watch list includes n predetermined number of channels, wherein n is an integer and the predetermined number of channels are ranked from one to n. The interface is configured to receive program information for a first channel, wherein the first channel is a channel of a watch list. The processor is further configured to determine a change from a previous channel to a current channel. The processor dynamically updates the watch list to include the previous channel, wherein the previous channel is ranked as one. The processor removes the channel ranked as n from the watch list.

System for adjusting an audio/visual device based on health and wellness data

A process receives, with a receiver, health and wellness data of a user that is sensed by one or more sensors during consumption by the user of media content. Further, the process receives, with the receiver, health and wellness data of the user that is determined by a healthcare provider during an event that is distinct from the consumption of the media content. In addition, the process aggregates, with a processor, the health and wellness data of the user that is sensed and the health and wellness data of the user that is determined by the health care provider into an aggregated health and wellness data model. The process also determines, with the processor, one or more optimal audio/visual device settings based on the aggregated health and wellness data model.

Method and system for remotely transcoding content

A system and method for remotely transcoding content includes a set top box generating a playlist corresponding to content titles stored in a memory of the set top box. A user device is in communication with the cloud location and the set top box through a network. The user device reviews the playlist and selects a first content title from the playlist to form a selection. The cloud location includes a transcoder device transcoding content corresponding to the selection to form transcoded content. One of the cloud location and the set top box communicates the transcoded content to the user device.

Method and apparatus for providing customized information

A method for providing customized information to a plurality of portable communication devices. A customer premises equipment (CPE) synchronizes with at least one of the plurality of portable communication devices. The CPE extracts descriptive data of media content stored in the at least one portable communication device. The CPE searches for a descriptive data of content available at the CPE based on the descriptive data extracted from the at least one portable communication device. The CPE determines that the extracted descriptive data matches the descriptive data of content available at the CPE. The CPE makes the content available to the at least one portable communication device.

Software receives a communication from a smart-television device. The communication includes a device identifier for the smart-television device and a geo-location for the smart-television device. The geo-location results from collaborative location detection that uses stored geo-positions previously received from one or more mobile devices positioned proximate to the smart-television device. The software causes the smart-television device to display a first view that includes a visual icon and a message identifying a connected-television service. The software receives a geo-position for a mobile device. Upon determining that the geo-location of the smart-television device is proximate to the geo-position of the mobile device, the software causes the mobile device to display a second view that includes the visual icon. The software receives a communication from the mobile device that indicates a match between the visual icon in the first view and the visual icon in the second view and connects the devices.

An electronic device that obtains a set of remote-control commands is described. During operation, the electronic device may receive an image associated with a second electronic device, where a brand and a model of the second electronic device are initially unknown to the electronic device. Then, the electronic device may perform image analysis on the image to determine at least the brand of the second electronic device. Moreover, the electronic device may access, based at least in part on the determined brand, the set of remote-control commands that are associated with the second electronic device. Next, the electronic device may store the set of remote-control commands in memory. Subsequently, when the electronic device receives user-interface activity information associated with a portable electronic device that specifies selection of the second electronic device, the electronic device may provide the set of remote-control commands to the second electronic device.

System and method for reconfiguration of an entertainment system controlling device

An entertainment device initiates a configuration process of a controlling device in response to a change in an audio visual entertainment system configuration in which at least one of a plurality devices is connected to the entertainment device as an audio and/or visual source and at least one of the plurality of devices is connected to the entertainment device as an audio and/or visual output destination for the entertainment device.
