Techniques to customize a media processing system are described. A media processing system is described capable of integrating a large set of heterogeneous electronic devices into a single integrated system with enhanced navigation capabilities and automated configuration services. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Items of video content offered for viewing on a video-on-demand (VOD) platform of a digital TV service provider are each assigned a respective title and hierarchical address corresponding to hierarchically-arranged categories and subcategories within which the title for the video content is to be categorized. The title is listed in a location of an electronic program guide (EPG) using the same categories and subcategories as its hierarchical address. Any TV subscriber can access the EPG and navigate through its categories and subcategories to find a title for viewing on the TV. The EPG dynamically adjust its display listings of each level of categories, subcategories, and titles in order to minimize the number of remote control keypresses needed for a viewer to navigate to a title of interest. In one basic form, the EPG display is reordered by listing more frequently visited categories or subcategories first, and other less frequently visited categories or subcategories lower on the listing or out-of-sight on another page of the display.

Method and systems for controlling a display device, including detecting a mid-air gesture using a sensing device; mapping the detected mid-air gesture to locations of an interaction region, the interaction region including an on-screen region of the display device and an off-screen region that is located outside an edge of the on-screen region; and performing a display device control action upon detecting an edge interaction based on the mapping of the detected mid-air gesture to locations that interact with the edge of the on-screen region.

Embodiments are provided for satellite volume control. An example method includes receiving an input at a playback device to adjust a volume for a plurality of playback devices that are grouped for synchronous playback of audio content, wherein the plurality of playback devices includes the playback device. The method also includes sending a first message over a network from the playback device to a device associated with the plurality of playback devices, the first message including information based on the input, wherein the information is used to adjust the volume of the plurality of playback devices. The method also includes receiving a second message at the playback device over the network, the second message including information for the volume of the playback device, wherein the volume is based on the adjusted volume of the plurality of playback devices.

Here, a digital device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a memory; a user interface unit that receives a menu request signal through a remote application executed in an external device; a display unit that displays an executed application; and a control unit that determines the properties of the received menu request signal on the basis of the application being displayed and generates menu data, implements controlling to transmit the generated menu data to the external device and output the menu data through a screen of the external device, and when a menu item selection signal of the menu output from the external device is received, implements controlling to transmit or activate menu data corresponding to the menu item selection signal.

Methods and systems are provided for processing video games streamed from a cloud gaming system over a network. The method includes receiving an indication of selection of the video game, for a gaming session, through a user interface associated with a streaming device that is connected to a display screen via a pass-through device. The method includes receiving a signal that the gaming session is active, from a game streaming logic of the pass-through device. In one embodiment, the game streaming logic is configured to receive a compressed stream of the video game, decode the compressed stream of the video game, and provide image data for rendering by the display screen, and receiving user input by the game streaming logic for driving interactivity of the video game while said cloud gaming system executes said video game.

An example embodiment operates by: entering a mute state from an always-listening state when the device receives a mute control signal; entering a PTT state from the mute state when the device is in the mute state and receives a first PTT control signal; activating the microphone when the device is in the PTT state; and entering the mute state from the PTT state when the device is in the PTT state and receives a second PTT control signal.
