A display apparatus, a terminal apparatus, and controlling methods are provided. The display apparatus includes: a communicator to communicate with a terminal apparatus or a relay server in order to receive collected status information about at least one peripheral device from the terminal apparatus, a display unit to display a user interface (UI) screen; and a controller to generate a control UI for controlling the at least one peripheral device or a security UI for monitoring a peripheral space through the at least one peripheral device based on the status information about the at least one peripheral device and based on whether a communication with the terminal apparatus is possible, thereby controlling a home device t in real time according to a communication status with the terminal apparatus.

Systems and associated methods are described for providing recording of a blacked out media content item. A system receives a request from a first user device associated with a profile to record a media content item scheduled to broadcast on a second user device (different from the first user device) associated with the profile, at a second location. The system determines that the media content item is subject to a blackout during a blackout period within a blackout region. The system determines that the first user device and the second user device are associated with the same profile and that the first user device is at a first location outside the blackout region. The system then accesses the media content item for recording on the second user device during the blackout period. The system further transmits the recorded media content item to the first user device after expiry of the blackout period.

Systems and methods of delegating media capturing functionality from one device to another are presented. A first device configured with an object recognition engine captures a media representation of an environment and identifies an object within that environment. Then based on matched object traits from a database, the engine selects a delegation rules set, and delegates certain media capturing functionality to a second device according to the selected delegation rules set.

One method includes displaying on a web page, over the Internet, a user interface element associated with an advertisement for electronic programming content; wherein selection of the user interface element, by a user of a web browsing device, initiates a recording device of the user, separate from the web browsing device, to schedule a recording of the electronic programming content. Another method for enabling Internet users to request television content includes displaying on a web page, over the Internet, a user interface element associated with an advertisement for television content; wherein a user's selection of the user interface element initiates a request for the advertised television content from a carrier that provides television service to the user.

A transmitting terminal can transmit a content held by itself to a specific receiving terminal having no email software as if using a mailer. The transmitting terminal (10) and the receiving terminal (20) are connected to a delivery server (30) via a network (4). The delivery server (30) comprises: a database (36) for registering the device ID that specifies the receiving terminal (20); a content storage (39) for temporarily storing a content transmitted from the transmitting terminal (10); and table (33, 37) for managing contents separately on a per device ID basis of the receiving terminal. A network appliance which receives digital content from a remote location; said appliance including decoding and recoding means by which digital content is downloaded, decoded then recoded for on-transmission to a digital device for consumption by a user. In a particular form each network appliance operates according to secure peer assist criteria; said secure peer assist criteria enabling reception of at least portions of said item of content from others of said plurality of network appliances if said item of content has been previously downloaded to said others of said plurality of network appliances.

A network appliance which receives digital content from a remote location; said appliance including decoding and recoding means by which digital content is downloaded, decoded then recoded for on-transmission to a digital device for consumption by a user. In a particular form each network appliance operates according to secure peer assist criteria; said secure peer assist criteria enabling reception of at least portions of said item of content from others of said plurality of network appliances if said item of content has been previously downloaded to said others of said plurality of network appliances.

According to an aspect, a method includes receiving, by a server computer, television setup criteria for a smart home application associated with an account of a user of the smart home application. The method may include receiving, by the server computer and from a network-enabled display device, a request to log into the account of the user, in response to logging into the account of the user, receiving a selection of the television setup criteria from the network-enabled display device; and in response to receiving the selection of the television setup criteria, facilitating an installation and use of at least one streaming service application on the network-enabled display device as specified by the television setup criteria, the television setup criteria being for a temporary mode of operation for the network-enabled display device.
