Enabling Interactive Control of Live Television Broadcast Streams
The disclosure provides a method for interactive control of live television broadcast streams. The method includes receiving a streaming live media feed from a television broadcaster and displaying an overlay on media content of the streaming live media feed. The overlay includes a play control option unassociated with an intermediary feed source of the live media feed between the television broadcaster and the media device. The method further includes receiving a first selection input of the play control option and determining that the selection input corresponds to a play mode at a first location within the media content of the streaming live media feed by determining that a first fingerprint fails to match a second fingerprint. Furthermore, the method includes overlaying targeted overlay content on the streaming live media feed.
Low-latency content delivery over a public network
A transcoding engine communicatively coupled to a broadcast source receiver for receiving the broadcast stream, decoding the broadcast stream, extracting and storing the PSIP tables from the broadcast stream and inserting metadata into the decoded broadcast stream, encoding the broadcast stream and the metadata, and attaching the PSIP tables to the encoded broadcast stream. A listener server device is communicatively coupled to the transcoding engine for receiving the encoded broadcast stream and establishing a low-latency tunnel with a caller client over a public internet and providing the encoded broadcast stream to the caller client through the low-latency tunnel.
Cloud Media Player
Techniques for providing multimedia content by a cloud media player are described herein. In some embodiments, the cloud media player is hosted by one or more servers that include one or more processors and a non-transitory memory. The cloud media player receives a request to play a media content item at a client device. The cloud media player identifies, based at least in part on client conditions at time of the request, one or more units of the media content item for the client device to download according to a manifest obtained and parsed by the one or more servers. The cloud media player then signals to the client device the one or more units to download.

The device may also communicate with a human interface device such as a remote control. The remote control may send control information to the multimedia device to control the remote display.

A container in a predetermined format including a video stream having video data with UHD resolution and a subtitle stream having subtitle data is received. The video data is obtained by decoding the video stream. Bitmap data of the subtitles is obtained by decoding the subtitle stream. In a case where a resolution of the subtitles does not match the UHD resolution, processing of converting a position of the subtitles is performed on the bitmap data of the subtitles. Video data for display is obtained by superimposing, on the video data, the bitmap data of the subtitles on which the processing of converting the position has been performed.
Selecting recommendations in a video delivery system using diversity and relevance
A method receives a candidate set of recommendations for video entities on a video delivery service in response to receiving a request to generate a page of an interface. A number for each recommendation is generated that represents a relevance rating of the respective recommendation minus a similarity rating between the respective recommendation and recommendations from the candidate set of recommendations that are added to a subset of recommendations. A recommendation is added to the subset of recommendations that has a maximum probability of being relevant to the user and diverse from the recommendations in the subset of recommendations based on the number. The method then updates the number for recommendations in the candidate set of recommendations based on adding the recommendation to the subset of recommendations. This process is iteratively performed and the subset of recommendations in the page of the interface is provided to a client device.
