The present invention provides an apparatus of transmitting broadcast signals, the apparatus including, an encoder for encoding service data, a frame builder for building at least one signal frame by mapping the encoded service data, a modulator for modulating data in the built at least one signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, OFDM, scheme and a transmitter for transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

A wideband receiver system comprises a wideband analog-to-digital converter (ADC) module and a digital frontend (DFE) module. The wideband ADC is configured to concurrently digitize a band of frequencies comprising a plurality of desired channels and a plurality of undesired channels. The DFE module is coupled to the digital in-phase and quadrature signals. The DFE module is configured to select the plurality of desired channels from the digitized band of frequencies, and generate an intermediate frequency (IF) signal comprising the selected plurality of desired channels and having a bandwidth that is less than a bandwidth of the band of frequencies, where the generation comprises frequency shifting of the selected plurality of desired channels. The IF signal may be a digital signal and the DFE is configured to output the IF signal via a serial or parallel interface.

The invention relates to a transmitting system, comprising an SNS client that receives SNS messages from at least one SNS server, and a transmitter which transmits a broadcast signal, including the SNS messages and mobile service data, for a mobile broadcast. The transmitter includes: an RS frame encoder, which performs RS encoding and CRC encoding on the mobile service data for the mobile broadcast so as to build RS frames, and divides each RS frame into a plurality of portions; a group-forming unit, which forms data groups that contain each of the plurality of portions, and which adds known data sequences and signaling data to each data group; an inter-leaver for interleaving data of the data groups; and a trellis encoding unit for trellis-encoding the interleaved data.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set-top-box (STB) having a controller to join a multicast group having an associated multicast address, wherein the multicast address is associated with a first content type of a plurality of content types, access encoded content associated with the first content type from the multicast address, wherein the encoded content is transmitted by at least one source associated with the multicast group to the multicast address, decode the accessed encoded content, and display the decoded content on a channel mapped to the multicast address. A packet-based video network includes: plural packetized video data nodes; a packet switch configured to switch from one of video packet routes to another of video packet routes; and a video synchronizer configured to synchronize the video frame periods of at least nodes acting as packetized video data sources; wherein: each node acting as a packetized video data source is configured to launch onto the network packetized video data such that, for at least video frame periods adjacent to a switching operation: the node launches onto the network packetized video data required for decoding that frame during a predetermined active video data portion of the video frame period, and the node does not launch onto the network packetized video data required for decoding that frame during a predetermined remaining portion of the video frame period; and the switching operation is implemented during the predetermined remaining portion.

A method and broadcast terminal for receiving an emergency alert message in a sleep mode, are discussed. In one embodiment, the method includes monitoring fast information channel (FIC) wake-up indicator in an FIC segment to determine if the broadcast terminal should be switched to an active mode to receive the emergency alert message; getting an FIC-Chunk payload responsive to the FIC wake-up indicator in the FIC segment, the FIC-Chunk payload including an emergency alert data package indicator; receiving an alert data indicated by a data package identification included in the FIC-Chunk payload, the emergency alert data package indicator indicating an emergency alert table describing the emergency alert message is carried in the data; and parsing the emergency alert message based on the emergency alert table.

The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, encoding Data Pipe, DP, data according to a code rate, wherein the encoding further includes Low-Density Parity-Check, LDPC, encoding the DP data, Bit interleaving the LDPC encoded DP data, and mapping the bit interleaved DP data onto constellations; building at least one signal frame by mapping the encoded DP data; and modulating data in the built signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, OFDM, method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

A broadcast TV signal is a DVB-T2 based system. A DVB-T2 transmitter checks OFDM symbols before transmission to determine a level of adjacent channel interference (ACI). If the of level of ACI is too high, i.e., above a threshold value, the OFDM symbols are filtered before transmission. Otherwise, the OFDM symbols are transmitted without filtering. A filtering field is added to an LI pre-signaling table of the broadcast DVB-T2 signal to signal a DVB-T2 receiver when the received OFDM symbols have been filtered.

An image display apparatus and an image displaying method are provided. The image display apparatus includes a display; and a processor configured to parse information about a channel selected in response to a channel selection signal, determine whether to provide a plurality of services through the selected channel based on the parsed information, and, in response to the determining that the plurality of services are to be provided through the selected channel, obtain a plurality of service streams respectively corresponding to the plurality of services provided through the selected channel; and a decoder configured to decode one service stream from among the obtained plurality of service streams.
