Techniques are described for allocation hardware and/or bandwidth resources of a viewer device between a live streaming media content playback of a video player and a concurrently provided live chat. For example, the bandwidth used by the live chat can be adjusted based on the playback of the video player.

Adaptive Cloud Offloading of Mobile Augmented Reality
Concepts and technologies for adaptive cloud offloading of mobile augmented reality are provided herein. In an embodiment, a method can include receiving, by an augmented reality system, an acquired image frame captured by an acquisition device. The acquired image frame can indicate a plurality of acquired image frame parameters. The method can include determining, by the augmented reality system, a plurality of augmented reality process instances. The method can include determining a plurality of local feature extraction time estimates based on the plurality of acquired image frame parameters, where a local feature extraction time estimate is created for each of the plurality of the augmented reality process instances. The method can include obtaining a network condition measurement, and generating a plurality of offload commands based on the network condition measurement and at least one of the plurality of local feature extraction time estimates.

A method includes evaluating a bandwidth capacity of an uplink between a first customer premises equipment device and a network node of a multimedia distribution network. The method includes transmitting a portion of multimedia content from the first customer premises equipment device to a second customer premises equipment device. The method includes, responsive to determining that the bandwidth capacity of the uplink is greater than a threshold, determining a number of subsequent requestors that the first customer premises equipment device is capable of servicing, selecting a first set of helper virtual peers from a pool of available helper virtual peers based on the number of subsequent requestors, and transmitting the multimedia content from the first customer premises equipment device to the first set of helper virtual peers.
Management of adaptive streaming of an item of digital content over a mobile network with selection of a maximum authorized encoding rate on the basis of a data bucket
A method for managing adaptive streaming of an item of digital content within a multimedia stream reading terminal connected to a mobile communication network is disclosed. The item of digital content is associated with a description file for the item and includes a list of time segments of the item of content that are each associated with multiple encoding rates of the item of content. A maximum data volume to be consumed within the mobile communication network, as a data bucket, is allocated to the multimedia stream reading terminal. When the adaptive streaming of the item is launched, the method determines a data volume that would be consumed by the multimedia stream reading terminal as a result of streaming the time segments and selects a maximum encoding rate of the item authorized for the streaming on the basis of the consumed data volume associated therewith and of the data bucket.
NETWORK INTERFACE DEVICES WITH UPSTREAM NOISE SUPPRESSORS
A network interface device includes an input-output port; an entry port; an upstream signal path configured to carry an upstream signal from the input-output port to the entry port; a noise suppressor, in the upstream signal path, that includes noise suppression paths between the input-output and entry ports; and a controller configured to: determine a first power level of the upstream signal in a first frequency band; determine a second power level of the upstream signal in a second frequency band; generate a control signal based on a first comparison of the first and second power levels, on a second comparison of the second power level with a threshold limit, or on the first comparison of the first and second power levels and on the second comparison of the second power level with the threshold limit; and select one of the noise suppression paths based on the control signal.
