SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MEDIA HUB SOFTWARE UPDATING
A system and method for automatically analyzing and managing a media hub software update. The system and method each utilize available media hub system and diagnostic information to aid in the analysis and installation of a software update. If the installation of the update is determined to require memory capacity in excess of what is currently available within the media hub, an archive and off-loading process is automatically initiated to free the required memory space during the installation process. Any off-loaded information and/or applications are then restored after the installation is complete.
Using system broadcasts to unobtrusively display media content on portable devices
A method of displaying media content through a display of a communication device including a processor, a memory having program code, and an operating system. A broadcast receiver configured to receive system broadcasts is registered with the operating system. A first system broadcast is generated by the operating system and is received. The first system broadcast indicates a first user interface element has been selected. A View container created in the memory includes the media content. The View container is painted on the display to thereby render the media content on the display. A second system broadcast is generated by the operating system is received. The second system broadcast indicates the first user interface element has been again selected. The View container is then removed from the memory, thereby terminating rendering of the media content on the display.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PERFORMING AN ACTION BASED ON VIEWING POSITIONS OF OTHER USERS
Systems and methods for performing an action based on viewing positions of other users are provided. Viewing progress in a media asset of each of a plurality of users is retrieved. The viewing progress of each of the plurality of users is compared to identify a maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. A request from a user to access the media asset is received. A current viewing progress in the media asset of the user is monitored to determine when the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress that is common to each of the plurality of users. In response to determining that the current viewing progress of the user matches the identified maximum viewing progress, a message with an option to perform an action relative to the media asset is generated for display to the user.
Method and apparatus for detection adjacent channel interference signal using channel information in mac frame
A method and an apparatus for filtering a wireless signal by parsing a wireless signal transmitted from a surrounding wireless terminal so as to extract channel information of the surrounding wireless terminal in a MAC frame and performing adaptive filtering on the wireless signal.
Using activity-backed overlays to display rich media content on portable devices during periods of user inactivity
A method for displaying rich media content through a user interface of a communication device. A first user interaction with the user interface is detected and it is determined, based partly upon detection of the first user interaction, that a first Activity of a plurality of Activities is finishing. An Overlay containing the media content is then rendered on the device display. The Overlay is associated with a backing Activity, the device operating system delaying execution of the backing Activity during a delay period initiated in response to the first user interaction. The method further includes inhibiting Activity-supported functionality of the Overlay facilitated by the backing Activity. A context object associated with the Overlay is created to contain an Activity context associated with a state of the Overlay during the delay period. The Activity context is transferred to the backing Activity and Activity-supported functionality of the Overlay enabled.
Methods and Apparatus for Mesh Networking Using Wireless Devices
A wireless peripheral mode is provided by a host system that communicates to a WiFi infrastructure and, utilizing the same WiFi RF subsystem, also communicates to peripherals. The host system may employ additional RF channels for communicating with high bandwidth peripherals, such as display devices, where high levels of QoS may be managed locally. The host system may be a conventional desktop computer system, a notebook computer system, a multi-media access point, a cell phone, a game machine, a portable game machine, a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), a smart phone or any other type of device that benefits from accessing both a WiFi infrastructure and local peripherals.

Persistent group of media items for a media device
Improved techniques to utilize and manage a group of media items (or media assets) on a computing device are disclosed. The group of media items can be utilized and managed at a host computer for the host computer as well as a media device (e.g., media player) that can couple to the host computer. One popular example of a group of media items is know as a playlist, which can pertain to a group of audio tracks. One aspect pertains to providing a persistent media device playlist at a host computer. Another aspect pertains to imposing capacity limits to a playlist, such as a media device playlist. Still another aspect pertains to a graphical user interface that enables a user to trade-off storage capacity of a media device between media asset storage and data storage. Yet still another aspect pertains to a graphical user interface that assists a user with selecting media items to fill a group of media items.
Intelligent unload of broadcaster application on channel change
Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. Upon channel change, the existing broadcaster application for the service being tuned away from is unloaded only responsive to a determination that the new service being tuned to requires a different broadcaster app.
