Example techniques related to battery-powered playback devices. In an example, a first battery-powered playback device (i) receives audio content from a network device, (ii) forwards the audio content to a second playback device for synchronous playback of the audio content with the second playback device, (iii) plays back the audio content, (iv) detects that a battery level of a battery of the first playback device has fallen below a predefined threshold, and (v) ceases the forwarding of the audio content. After the battery level of the first playback device has fallen below the predefined threshold, the second playback device (i) receives the audio content from the network device, (ii) forwards the audio content to the first playback device for synchronous playback with the first playback device, and (iii) plays back the audio content in synchrony with the first playback device.

Disclosed herein is a dynamic backup battery for updating the firmware of a media device. The media device includes a memory device that is electrically coupled to a port. The port of the media device is configured to receive a first power. The media device also includes a battery that is electrically coupled to the port and is configured to supply a second power to the port. The media device includes a processor electrically coupled to the battery and is configured to monitor the power level of the first power received and based on the power level of the first power received falling below a threshold value, the battery supplies a second power to the port of the media device. The processor is further configured to activate a low power mode, detect an event while in low power mode, deactivate low power mode, perform a task, and reactivate low power mode.

A nonvolatile memory is coupled to a processor in a set top box. On the timing sequence set within the system, set top box data is transferred from the processor to the nonvolatile memory. Set top box system data includes user data and set top box specific data. The current data is maintained in the nonvolatile memory. The system data can be transferred to second memory by a wireless connection even when the set top box is not coupled to a power supply. The system data can then be provided from the second memory to any selected device, computer or location, such as another set top box, a diagnostic tool, a repair facility or other selected location.

A display apparatus includes presence detection circuitry for detecting an individual in proximity to the display apparatus; a display for displaying video content and a user interface; a processor in communication with the user input circuitry, the display, and the search history database; and non-transitory computer readable media in communication with the processor that stores instruction code. Method for distributing multimedia public warning alerts in a mobile telecommunications network, including: creating an alert message by an emergency authority computer in the network, the message including a textual message and a multimedia object; sending by a content distributor server parameters for a content delivery session; sending by the computer the created message to the server; sending by the computer a request for a cell broadcast message to a cell broadcast center in the network, the message including the textual message and content delivery session parameters; broadcasting by the cell broadcast center the message through a radio access network; receiving by mobile user equipment in the network the message through the radio access network; setting up by the multicast content distributor server a transparent IP multicast session between the server and at least some of the user equipment; sending the multimedia object though the session to the user equipment.

A system and method for automatically controlling a mode on a set top box [100]. The method comprises identifying, from a set of pre-stored contextual information, a target pre-stored contextual information associated with an entity. The method further comprises identifying, a usage preference associated with the entity based on the target pre-stored contextual information. Thereafter the method leads to identifying, one of a presence and an absence of the entity in the vicinity of the set top box [100] based on the target pre-stored contextual information and a sensor data. The method thereafter comprises automatically controlling, the mode on the set top box [100] based on the usage preference associated with the entity and one of the presence and the absence of the entity in the vicinity of the set top box [100].

A display device includes a display and a controller. The controller may obtain whether at least two or more thumbnail images of the plurality of thumbnail images are identical, and control to display the plurality of photo images on the display by executing the slide show in a deterioration prevention mode from among a normal mode and the deterioration prevention mode when the at least two or more thumbnail images of the plurality of thumbnail images are identical.

A system for providing a set-top box standby power cutoff service is provided, and includes a timer configured to count a preset time after switching to a standby state, and a circuit breaker configured to cut off standby power when there is no input signal and the set-top box is not in operation after the elapse of the preset time counted by the timer.

Disclosed herein are system, apparatus, article of manufacture, method and/or computer program product embodiments, and/or combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for transferring streaming media playback between streaming media devices. In an example embodiment, a user may be streaming content using a first media device. The user may then send a command to the first media device to transfer the streaming content to a second media device. The first media device may identify the second media device as being on a common network and transmit a wake command to the second media device as well as media playback state information indicating a playback position to resume playback. In some embodiments, the first media device may download the media playback state information onto a mobile device. The mobile device may then provide the media playback state information to the second media device to resume playback at the first media device's playback position.

The present disclosure describes techniques for effectively utilizing a standby mode of a set top box (STB). The techniques according to the present disclosure comprise detecting a standby mode of the STB and in response to detecting the standby mode of the STB, selectively toggling an audio decoder of the STB to an ON state or selectively maintaining an ON state of the audio decoder. Accordingly, the techniques according to the present disclosure enable audio only playback from the STB in the standby mode.
