A user interface allows for blending of television program choices from which a viewer may select, the blending representing options for linear and non-linear programming presented together within a single hierarchy of a designated category. The blending may further include managed content relevant to the designated category, where desired. Such designated categories may include television programming categories and/or content categories. The options for linear and non-linear programming may be presented together within a single screen of the user interface.

In one aspect, a first device includes at least one processor and storage accessible to the at least one processor. The storage may include instructions executable by the at least one processor to receive a cast command in response to input to a source device, and to establish a cast mode to cast content from the source device to a target device pursuant to the cast command. The cast mode may be established based at least in part on information appertaining to the target device. The instructions may also be executable to present the content on the target device in a first format responsive to establishing a first cast mode and to present the content on the target device in a second format responsive to establishing a second cast mode.

The server system transmits, from a virtualized third-party application to a client device, an instruction to open a media resource from a content distribution network, the media resource comprising a plurality of video segments, each video segment of the plurality of video segments having video segment data and metadata. The server system receives, from the client device, first metadata for a first video segment of the plurality of video segments, without receiving first video segment data for the first video segment. The server system generates a recreated representation of the first video segment using the first metadata. The virtualized third-party application generates a transformed version of the recreated representation of the first video segment. The server system transmits, to the client device, an instruction to play the first video segment, wherein the instruction is based on the transformed version of the recreated representation of the first video segment.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING A DELETION NOTIFICATION
Systems and methods are provided herein for indicating an amount of available storage space. To this end, the systems and methods monitor storage space associated with a media storage device to determine whether an amount of storage space available is less than a threshold. In response to determining the amount of storage space available is less than the threshold, the systems and methods enter a deletion mode. Systems and methods monitor user interactions between a user and a user device after entering the deletion mode. Systems and methods further generate for display a notification at an appropriate time, based on the monitored user interactions, to indicate the amount of storage space available to the user.
Using system broadcasts to unobtrusively display media content on portable devices
A method of displaying media content through a display of a communication device including a processor, a memory having program code, and an operating system. A broadcast receiver configured to receive system broadcasts is registered with the operating system. A first system broadcast is generated by the operating system and is received. The first system broadcast indicates a first user interface element has been selected. A View container created in the memory includes the media content. The View container is painted on the display to thereby render the media content on the display. A second system broadcast is generated by the operating system is received. The second system broadcast indicates the first user interface element has been again selected. The View container is then removed from the memory, thereby terminating rendering of the media content on the display.

In a user interface method, system and device in a multitasking environment, it is possible for a user to view all of a plurality of simultaneously executed applications by assigning different display areas to the plurality of applications. The AV receiver includes a controller configured to dynamically alter one or more encryption settings based at least in part on user input provided to a mode toggle mechanism. The one or more altered encryption settings are effective to facilitate presentation of unencrypted content within a received media stream on a display while selectively preventing presentation of encrypted content included in the received media stream on the display.

The one or more programs include instructions for, in accordance with a determination that the electronic device is in a first mode of operation, while the first media content item is presented on the first playback component, presenting a preview of the second media content item on a second playback component. The one or more programs include instructions for, in accordance with a determination that the electronic device is not in the first mode of operation: ceasing presentation of the first media content item and presenting the preview of the second media content item.
